I've been thinking about that for a long time and maybe now it's a good moment for trying.

It's all about making a community game in a relatively short time period, where people interested could join.

The game itself would be a shooter made with the "Yoshida Konzern" editor (the one used to make 'Lübeck'), so no programming acknowledge is required, just some graphical/designing skills. To make the game full MSX2 compatible, it would be a vertical shooter (the game engine makes use of MSX2+ HW scroll for horizontal stages, you know).

I would provide the disks with the editor and the generic data already defined (player, weapons, etc) and a sample stage. I would also provide a translation of the main options to help with the usage.

Every team/individual joining the project would make just one stage. Anyway, it all depends on how many people want to join, because there's a maximum of 8 vertical stages available. So:

-If less than 8 groups/individuals are participating, any group could volunteer to make another stage from the remaining ones.

-If more than 8 groups/individuals are participating, an internal group votation could be made to select the 8 best stages (or even make more than one game!).

Using either original, inspired or converted (from non MSX games) gfx would be allowed.

What do you think about the idea??... is anybody interested?? Smile

I don't think I can design well enough but perhaps I can help with a translation of the other options (aside from the main options).

This somehow reminds me of that open source/collaboration project we reported about several months (years?) ago. Too bad my graphical/musical skills aren't worth mentioning. I like the idea though!

Yep, looks an interesting project Smile. Maybe if we start talking about the shoot'em up theme some people could be interested...

What about a steampunk shooter?

P.D.: What are the specs of Yoshida Konzern?, how many colors (I suposse it works in SC5) in screen?, how many tiles & size?. This kind of details...

Of course... any help on that matter would be appreciated! Wink

This is much more simple... it's only about drawing/converting gfx and designing a stage. About the game tunes, it's not possible to add new ones.

I was thinking about a classical space shooter. It's possible to do something like 'Knightmare'... but the main problem I see are the obstacles (you can define obstacle tiles, but they kill you in contact).

Yes, it's SR5, so 16 colours.

You have 256 tiles (8x8 pixel size) for each stage graphical set.

The main character is made from 2 sprites combined (3 colours per line) and the rest (weapons, enemies, etc) are single sprites (1 colour per line). There's a kind of big enemy (or sub-boss) which is 32x32 size (4 single sprites) and the boss is up to 64x64 size (16 single sprites).

And a small warning the program gives you:
If you save changed data on the disk it will delete the sample game which came with it.
So if you make a game yourself first make a copy of the disk to create a user gamedisk. Use this disk from that point on.

In case you want to create a user gamedisk, please use a 2dd formatted disk.

Then the game asks you: Will you create a user gamedisk?

Yes No

Hopefully this prevents people from destroying their gamedata...

If you have a fully translated version... I'll do my best. What about music? Which format? (MB1.4?)

Well perhaps adding new tunes is as 'easy' as replacing a music file with one of the same name and formating. Don't know if that is practical though... Keep in mind that I don't know the format and know as much about programming as I know about how to bring about world peace.

Yes, I knew about that and I planned to explain it to all people joining.

The editor is not translated. I just have a translated schema. As I said, it's not possible to add new music... but I bet they are made with MuSICA.

It's not that easy, since you can't see any file at the disks (they are sector based).
