After giving shape to his idea during long time, legendary Spanish MSX user José Luis "Caballero" Lerma (erpirao in the MRC), decided to take a step forward launching an innovative proposal to the MSX community.

Just like other people is supporting the MSX scene choosing one of the numerous ways they have available within a retrocomputer platform such as hardware and software developing, events organization and others, José Luis always felt obligated to contribute in some way to the MSX standard but none of the regular options were accesible to him.

After analysing the alternatives available, he reached a conclusion, if it were not possible to do it directly, why not indirectly sponsoring an especific project with economical resources? And so, no more no less, of 500€ is awaiting for a project of certain magnitude, preferably for MSX2 which should be released within a reasonable time, about 18 months. For rules and a more detailed information, please visit the forum thread opened recently. (Note: the information provided right now is available in Spanish only).

Very laudable initiative!

The rules are set up interestingly; José takes the risk off the developer, guaranteeing a minimum financial incentive for development up-front, but by asking for €5 per unit sold, in principle after 100 units sold the amount should be replenished for a new financing round! Good discussion, too (in Spanish, but Google helped me out Big smile).

Wondering if that offer is also valid for projects that will not be sold but offered (for free)?

It’s not, it says later in the thread. Though it does mention it’s fine to apply with a game participating in e.g. MSXDev, which requires the submission to be freely available, so I guess this means that if you do so then you should also sell a physical edition (possibly upgraded).

Hello louthrax:

Firstly, sorry for the translation "made in google".

This is an adaptation of an answer in the Spanish forum that I have been uploaded, referring to the same theme:

Unfortunately, if the developer did not want to sell it, there would be no way to recover the money destined to be reinvested in future developments, becoming unusable and by extension leaving the initiative without future effects. However, it may open the possibility that the money could be donated voluntarily.

This initiative is based on helping developers and, by extension, the user to have a greater and better flow of software in the community.
If someone has no interest in selling the development (something very laudable), I understand that what I believe is a donation of 500 € for the production of the game, at this moment, I can not afford this expense, although I would like, in the future).

However, once the study period of the initiative has ended, and the web is created, the rules of the initiative will be improved, with the suggestions received during this period.
For example: adding that the project has to be put up for sale.

Warning: Web Delay
Due to family incidences (work and moving) and work (reincorporation after the holidays), it has not been possible for me to outline the initiative's website as I would like it to be, delaying the activation of it, at least until September 8 .
I apologize for the inconvenience caused, and that you know that there are news for those who are encouraged to participate.
