Whilst blueMSX 1.3.0 was released just 13 days ago, Daniel Vik has finished another update: version 1.4.0. blueMSX, popular because of its ease of use, has undergone a major update to its musical department: with version 1.4.0 comes the implementation of Moonsound in excellent stereo.

Other improvements in version 1.4.0:

  • added a new megarom mapper : blueMSX is the first emulator to correctly support KOEI roms with 8kB and 32kB SRAM.
  • improved support of all games with SRAM
  • added support for basic games in rom format
  • correct overscan behaviour (Matra games, Unknown Reality)
  • version control in savestate (to make saved states backwards compatible and avoid errors when loading old states)
  • additions to the internal rom database
  • changed emulation of special keys of Japanese MSX keyboard
  • fixed bug in mouse buttons emulation
  • fixed bug in screen 0 width 80
  • fixed bug about sprite collision and drawing in screen 1-3
  • fixed bug in cassette read only mode
  • fixed bug in save state (audio chip was not saved)
  • fixed bugs in translations and menu

Is your download complete ? You must have an autoinstallable zipped file of 3.463 Kb.

First one question. Does the emulator start without the dsk file?

If not, you can try one or all of the following:

1. Go to Menu: Options->Emulation and select another MSX machine.
2. Remove the directory called "Config"
3. Start the emulator from the command prompt: blueMSX /reset

Try 1 first, then 2, then 3. Hopefully one of these options will help you.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

There are changes in the machine config. Could be that they aren't updated properly. I will take a look at this but I am happy that you found a way to make it work.

Thanks

I'm really impressed by the Moonsound emulation. I think it's really good.

Hmmm, I´m not an emu freak, buit I just tested blueMSX and I really think it´s not as good as openMSX yet ..... I tried Aleste 2 and everything is painfully stuttering around and seems choppy and slow .... the scrolling is not very smooth, but it´s GUI rocks Wink

If you think that blueMSX is painfully stuttering around and seems choppy and slow in comparison to openMSX I really want hear what you are using. blueMSX is somewhere between 10 and 50 times faster than openMSX and runs much smoother on most PCs.

This does of course not mean that your observation is wrong so if you can give me some information I can maybe do something about the problem.

Check out the test movie I made with the latest blueMSX. The quality is not the best but you can tell that, blueMSX is not "painfully stuttering".

By the way, I used a same machine to actually capture the movie, and this is an software capturing meaning that it require alot CPU usage while capturing. Still blueMSX runs fairly well. For your information, I'm using a P4 2.4mhz with GeforceFX5200.

blueMSX is maybe not better (or best)MSX emulator. But you know what? We've got best dev team in the scene that's values users opinion and that why we did this quick demo for you. (because we care ;)

Well, I´m referring to ALESTE 2 only here, haven´t tested anything else yet .... my PeCe is a P4 2,53 Ghz. with 512MB RDRam, GeForce 2 GTS Ultra grafix card 64MB .....

Oh btw. even the MSX Logo scrolling is choppy Sad

I haven't seen an MSX emulator with a SMOOTH scrolling MSX logo yet.

blueMSX smoothness is fine here, after changing sync mode in options->performance->emulation to 1ms.

@Latok

In openMSX the scrolling is as smooth as on my real MSX2 machines !

@jonemaan

Doesn´t bring better results here, but I´ll have a depper look into those options .....
