A new version of C-BIOS was released today. New in this version, apart from fixing the usual minor niggles:

  • VRAM size is now properly checked, fixing R-Type's V9938 detection
  • C-BIOS doesn't lie anymore about the interrupt frequency
  • Don't di; halt when no ROM is found, the warning in openMSX may be confusing

Any improvement in C-BIOS is an improvement in our freedom as MSX-hardware or MSX-emulator users.
I do not understand why people is not reacting to this post. An alternative freeware BIOS but compatible with the copyrighted one is a wonderful gift for all of us and I do not want to think about the huge effort involved in this project.

So, keep the good job, guys!

P.S: Has anyone tried it on regular MSX hardware? I'd love to toast an EEPROM and plug it in my real MSX(1).

Thanks Pitpan

As for cbios on real msx hardware: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V6Voa_4_lw

Feel free to join the c-bios team if you want :) just join on irc.freenode.net #openMSX and talk to bifimsx or mth. We still get a lot of requests for disk support and or basic.

I do agree, that's another wonderful project. I don't miss the BASIC that much, but the disk support would be a must.

I could help a little if there were better debugging tools for the real MSX hardware. But as for my unanswered requests on the Firehawk quest, I can only believe there's no such tools available.

I just don't get how the MSX community got this far without good/reliable step-by-step debugging tools for the real hardware.
