Two days ago a new version of MESS, the Multiple Emulator Super System based on MAME was released. This time, there's something new for MSX users as well, as in this new version MSX2+ emulation was added. You can now select the following machine configurations:

  • Panasonic FS-A1FX
  • Panasonic FS-A1WSX
  • Panasonic FS-A1WX (two versions)
  • Sony HB-F1XDJ
  • Sony HB-F1XV
  • Sanyo WAVY PHC-35J
  • Sanyo WAVY PHC-70FD
  • Sanyo WAVY PHC-70FD2

Furthermore, several small Windows bugs were fixed. All improvements that have been made to MAME 0.82 also apply to the new version of MESS. The new version of MESS is available for both Windows and Unix (Linux).

Too bad that it cannot read the WAVed MSX games that I have somewhere in my hard-disk. Perhaps Sean Young could give us a clue of how it works.

The same happens also with WAV support in OpenMSX. Does not work with WAVs produced by WAVER/WAVER v.2/WAVER v.3. And they work in every *REAL* MSX system that I tested. Weird.

maybe that "WAVs produced by WAVER/WAVER v.2/WAVER v.3" GOT a hardware sensibility, (chip not supported, or not configured, slotting sensibility, subslotting sensibility), etc, maybe is the player... maybe simply don't work in a msx2.....

Maybe it's the phase of the .wav's produces?

It is not a slot/subslot problem: it doesn't show the "Found:" message. It may be a phase problem, but, the thing is that the same wav loads perfectly in all my MSX machines (tested in more that 10 different MSX models).

Of course openMSX supports cassette, flyguille!

Anyway: what is the baudrate of these files? It seems rather high, when checking it in a sample editor. (I checked the testwav.zip you posted a long time ago...)

Yes, the baud rate is high: average is 8250 bauds. But the loader is a standard 2400 baud wav. But I use stereo WAVs, should I switch to monoaural WAVs?

I think mono will do just as good, perhaps even better.
