For openMSX 0.8.2, most of the developers' efforts went into fixing bugs and performing small improvements. All this, of course, means that MSX emulation has improved. A summary of all that's new or fixed:

  • Improved: accuracy of MSX-MUSIC (Okazaki), Moonsound and Graphics9000
  • Added: support for the Laserdisc games Junior High School Mathematics
  • Added: support for the mapper types Baby Dinosaur Dooly, Manbow 2 (second release) and Best of Hamaraja Night
  • Added: emulation of memory based I/O for MSX RS-232C - enabling emulation of the Sony HBI-232
  • Added: Sony HB-F95 and Sony HB-G900P
  • Added: support for JoyMega (Megadrive joy pad with six buttons)
  • Video improvements: faster laserdisc rendering; added horizontal stretch for SDL renderer
  • Sound improvements: blip resampler; sound synchronised to EmuTime; sound driver based on libao-based sound driver added; option added to record channels of all attached sound chips
  • Updated all scripts to Tcl 8.5
  • Reverse bar improved

The list goes on and on, if you really want all the details, the release notes will be of use. If you encounter any bugs, do let the developers know about it, so they can iron them out. Several options to get in contact are available such as their forum and their IRC channel #openmsx on irc.freenode.net. You're also welcome to come up with feature suggestions and a ROM dump of that extremely rare MSX you have in your basement.

Great!
Maybe catapult now should evolve a bit (e.g. with HD support)

Catapult development was stopped early 2006 (but we make sure it still works for current openMSX releases). We are planning to come up with a good replacement though.

In the mean time, you can use it as-is, or use the built in menu (use the Windows menu key to show it), which we mostly created for handheld usage.

It's been a while since the latest official openMSX release. If you want to try out a more recent build, you can find daily development builds that usually are stable at http://openmsx.fixato.net/ -- using the latest development builds help ensure the official releases will be bug-free and well-tested. :)

One thing about the reverse bar that could be added is the following:
Keep the latest point saved somewhere to which you can go back when you made the mistake I did.
When switching a lot between openMSX and the pc software you're working with, and you're not using alt+tab to switch, but the mouse, you just click somewhere in the program you want to be active instead of the icon in the taskbar or the top of the program's window.
When switching often and getting the hang of what you're doing, you might start typing as soon as your program becomes active again.
I came back from a pc tool to openMSX by clicking somewhere in openMSX, exactly in the middle of the reverse bar, and went on typing. Due to this, the reverse bar reset itself and I lost a lot of work.
I mentioned this a few times on informal places, but I think it should be mentioned formally. Here by:
Please keep a snapshot of the latest time in the reverse bar and have a key to go back there, in case you made the silly mistake I made...

@Meits maybe it is an idea to have the reverse bar hidden and only show when you hit a modifier key or Function key?
As for this being a formal request.. I kinda doubt (m)any developer reads it here (note: I'm not really an openMSX developer; I just take care of the automatic builds).
Might be better to post at openMSX Suggestions and Requests Forum

@AxelF I believe the Dingoo also runs on ARM, so maybe that build will run or can be used as a basis for compilation.
Perhaps you should ask in the #openMSX chatroom on the freenode IRC network.

Formal, formal... More as a reply in a topic where it's not off topic Wink
