MSX user chalky from the UK surprises us with a new game for the MSX: Ballzup! Ballzup is a game based on STBALLS and runs on any MSX1 or higher, coded entirely in MSX-BASIC apart from a tiny assembler routine to clear the screen. The game has been in development for several years, and is the first game chalky finished creating since he started programming on his Yamaha CX5M way back in 1985!

The idea of the game is simple: place diverters with the Z and X keys to direct the ball to the exit. Of course you will have to do so via all the targets and before the time limit expires. And to do so is quite a challenge!

The download contains the game in ROM format and comes with a short manual. The game also runs on an MSX turbo R, but the speed will be too high to be playable.

Looks like the 64KB ROM doesn't really work on bluemsx Sad

Heh, weird. I ran it on openMSX and that worked just fine.

Missing info in the manual and on MRC : the ROM mapper is ASCII8.

As the blueMSX auto-detection fails in such cases (non-mirrored 64 Kb roms created with DSK2ROM), you need to insert manually the rom and to select the good mapper. This procedure is also explained in the blueMSX manual !

Probably other option for this game is to "extract" the files from the ROM and to build a DSK. Only for experts however ...

Apologies for the missing ASCII8 information. I usually use openMSX for development nowadays and only tested this quickly in blueMSX before submitting it. Unfortunately it ran fine because my ROM map setting was already "ASCII8". However, I have just tried running it in blueMSX 2.8.3 Beta (with correctly set ROM mapper) and it refuses to run at all. Sad

Strange Question On my system, no any problem with blueMSX 2.8.2, 2.8.3 beta or 2.9 (unreleased) if the good mapper is selected manually. Even if I run the MSX2 Korean machine (generally many problems with this config), it works like a charm !

Remark : don't use a C-BIOS machine, C-BIOS dislikes ROMs created with DSK2ROM (as Basic and disk supports are missing).

Indeed it does - it seems my beta installation was somehow corrupted. A fresh install fixed that. Smile
