MRC member Wolverine_NL has just released GR8CFG, a tool to configure various aspects of the GR8NET.

This includes:

  1. Show info on current device firmware versions and dates
  2. Show info on current network settings
  3. Change network settings via DHCP or your own fixed settings
  4. Change Audio mixer settings and volumes, for SCC, MSX-MUSIC, MSX-AUDIO, PCM, WAVE
  5. Change Mapper modes and Boot mapper modes
  6. Switch to MP3 FPGA in a second
  7. Use a quick url to use Netbrowse
  8. Use a slotfix if needed for use of FM-PAK rom in mode 8, some models have issues like HB-F700, this solves it.
  9. Use Online update quickly, remember to use it in mode 0 and run GR8CFG from floppy disk or other reachable device in mode 0

GR8CFG is written in BASIC and runs on any MSX. It can be downloaded from MSX Information Network.

I have used and tested GR8CFG extensively on the Nijmegen Fair.
Together with Wolverine_NL a number of bugs and imperfections were solved.

A real nice tool to get the best out of your GR8NET. Cool

I read that on the newspost on MSX Information Network, but I didn't wanted to copy it entirely for this. But ofcourse you deserve credit for helping out, so here Wink

Thanks Hamlet, keep in mind that online updating only works from version 0.7 firmwares.

The use of fmpak rom. Is that to have BASIC commands to control msx-music?

It is mentioned in the GR8NET manual, section 7.1, that fmpak rom bios is loaded in slot3, if it isn't, cause of your machine config or game, then you can use the slotfix or netfkopllr command to load it elsewhere.
Not sure if basic commands will work, now at this moment I cant test it, tomorrow i can.

If you have the MSX-Music bios anywhere else (fm-pac or onboard MSX-Music) this bios can be used to play Gr8net's MSX-Music.

I cannot find that scenario in the manual. Maybe Eugeny can answer this.
Or did you already know this for a fact? ;)

It happens to me all the time because I have the Gr8net in a mode where there is no MSX-Music bios. But the MSX-Music works.
Eugeny knows about this because he saw it happen on twitch where he was taking a look at some settings on my system.

Rereading chat with Eugeny now.
He was surprised MSX-Music bios was found by Gr8net's initialisation screen while it stated mapper mode 0. Since I was, and still am, a Gr8net noob I didn't pay much attention to it cuz hell what would I know? Tongue
It just worked and at first Eugeny thought it was an error. Later he got to know there were several other MSX-Musics involved and asked me (again) where the music was coming from. Gr8net's jack.
Then he asked me to do some tests in a simpler MSX, but unfortunately I only have stuff released after MSX2 and all has MSX-Music onboard Sad Sad
