Nerlaska is happy to announce the new release of Knightmare Gold, their extensive remake of our beloved Konami classic. The new features that the game contains are:

  • 4 different heroes; Popolon, Gold Knight, the Viking Warrior and the Penguin
  • Improved gameplay; adjustments in the difficulty
  • More powerful shields; the shield resists more impacts
  • A new weapon, the shurikens
  • Several minor bugs fixed

There is also a contest involved. If you are skilled enough to finish the game without using cheats, you can win two games. The first player that sends the secret message that appears in the final sequence of the game to demonvideogames@gmail.com, will win two games for PS3 and PS4; God of War and Infamous, Second Son.

Hmmm?! Am I missing something here, or this has nothing to do with the "real" Knightmare Gold?
(First image on the post is from the MSX version, made by Daniel Caetano - which has nothing to do with this remake)

{mod: thanks, it's fixed}

It's a worthy remake, the graphics look real nice. And I love the original sound effects Smile

Thanks for sharing. Haven't tried it myself though. My gripe with these remakes is, although I can appreciate the effort, it just doesn't feel right, or looks too 'smooth'/colorful/childish/teletubbie.. (But pls don't feel offended, I might try it, and perhaps like it even.. Wink)
IMO an *ace* remake would just have to capture the 8-bit feeling...

Agreed, calling it 'Knightmare Gold' is misleading, that's the name/title of the aforementioned MSX revamp (and doesn't do that excellent piece of work justice). Better call it something like: Knightmare remake - Gold Edition (as the screenshot shows). (I feel Demon Videogames should also update/alter the title accordingly on their pages..) (@nerlaska: is Demon Videogames an initiative of / a site run by yourself?)

I'm part of the original (released in 2005 for MSX) Knightmare Gold team, and I'm a bit disappointed that Nerlaska seems to have completely ignored our work when naming theirs. This is a potential source of confusion, and it doesn't help that they don't seem to care much for naming consistency themselves: I've seen them calling their own work "Knightmare Remake Gold", "Remake Knightmare - Versión Gold", "Knightmare Gold Edition", "Knightmare Gold", "Knightmare Gold Remake" and even only "Knightmare". "Knightmare Remake - Gold Edition" would have been fine, since it clearly describes what it is.

I don't mean this as a slight to the remake itself. I couldn't actually try it because it doesn't run on Mac, but I'm looking forward it.

Oh, my. Sad I'll change the title of this newspost a bit to lessen the chance of confusion.

I think a logical conclusion to do a new updated Knightmare Gold Edition (MSX) with the audio tracks of Knightmare Remake - Gold Edition (Win). ^____^

OR

A new updated Knightmare Remake - Gold Edition (Win) with the audio tracks from Knightmare Gold (no "edition" - MSX). Wink

Yes, I'm aware our soundtrack sounds primitive, but that was kind of the intention. I liked the rough sound of low quality samples. But to be honest I don't think I could do much better at the time.

Finally I got around to run this game on a Windows machine. I'm disappointed, to be frank. Not because of the game itself, since it seems just fine, but I couldn't enjoy it after finding some of my Knightmare arrangements in the game's Jukebox. They sound like the older versions used in Knightmare CD, not the slightly enhanced ones used in Knightmare Gold. There is no mention about their author or where they were taken from.

I'm really at a loss of words. It would be nice, at least, having been notified about it. I could provide them with better versions. It would be nice receiving some credit, too.

Shame on you, Nerlaska. Sad

Nice graphics... bad naming.
And not mentioning Parn is simply... rude.
However, I believe Nerlaska just forgot about it, and I hope he will include Parn in the credits soon.
Regarding to the name, "Knightmare Remake: Gold Edition" is better, although it brings the idea this remake edition was inspired by the changes added on the original Knightmare Gold - and I don't really know if it was.

Anyway, kudos for the nice graphics and programming effort.
Nerlaska just needs to improve the comunity relationship. Whenever a group releases its work "for free", at least they would like to see it mentioned/credited whenever it is used directly or simply as an inspiration.
