A few months ago, the MSXdev Team requested feedback from the MSX community itself on how to go about organizing the next instance of this ongoing contest. This, because they feel that MSXdev is, was, and should always be a community effort, thus as inclusive as it can possibly be.
After pondering on all of the interesting suggestions and questions on both the official site, as well as on the thread here on MRC, the team was able to make a realistic assessment regarding the rules, rewards, donations and deadlines, while trying to keep the community's desires firmly in mind.
Now, the MSXdev Team presents the 2017 edition of their competition, introducing two different categories:
- MSX Classic: No expansions of any kind, just a first generation MSX as it was conceived
- MSX Freestyle: There’s no limit at all. Feel free to use whatever you want (graphic expansions, sound extensions, add-ons, later machines than MSX1, etc.)
The competition starts at the 1st of January 2017 and ends on the 1st of October 2017. Also, three expert jury members have already been confirmed, being Toni Gálvez, Gryzor87 and Fernando García, willing and able to shine their light on the entries. The two remaining category slots are being negotiated as this newspost is rolling from the presses.
Lastly, compared with the previous edition, a more rigid way of dealing with things and hands-on mentality has been deeply implemented in this renewed organization. You may remember some hiccups that delayed properly wrapping up MSXdev'15, but you can rest assured that this is a thing of the past now.
