Here we have a multiplayer game for up to 4 players at the same time! Why play alone if you can have even more fun with three friends instead?
"Bumper Ship Racing" is a racing game, just as simple as that. Try to cross the finish line before your opponents do. There are three different modes: Cup Race, Single Race, and Time Trial. All tracks are raced for four laps except in Time Trial mode. The player can choose from three ship models which all have different features.

As the name says, bumping is the secret to become the best racer, as your ship tends to bump into all the walls, setting the stage for a learning curve considering the control at the first few plays.

Important: This game competes in the contest just for fun. Its author refuses any potential prizes if it would win one.

Nice game, but really, really, really hard to play because the controls, I'll never liked to use up direction to go forward, I think triggers are better solution than press up, with joystick is practically impossible to play IMHO.

I agree. I didn't try playing with a joystick/D-pad until very late into the development.

I'll try adding an options menu to toggle between the two control schemes (thrusters bound to either up or fire), alongside the option to toggle thruster sprites on and off.

I haven't added the options menu in yet, but I did change the thruster to work by the fire button for all players. The updated ROM is at its regular URL.

I think I originally wanted to preserve the fire button for some special (nitro or so), but I eventually didn't add anything like that to the game.

Hello, dear MSX friends!
For those who may have missed this; Bumper Ship Racing has been updated significantly:

  • Thruster is now bound to fire button instead of pushing up
  • Added more graphical detail to tracks
  • Races have a maximum duration of 10 minutes
