Congrats to all partecipants! Santi your game is great (as always) Big smile
Well, I still jave to add end sequence gfx to Freedom Fighter and my (1st) game should be complete. Then I'll take a short breath and think about a new project!

Wow!! Thanks a lot to the organizers! It was very close at the top, and looking at the individual scores, it could have really gone either way for 1st and 2nd!

And thanks thegeps, looking forward to the final version of Freedom Fighter and your new project! I'm sure it's going to be interesting! Big smile

There are great games in the top 5 (and below that as well). I'm very happy to be the exact middle of the pack -- ten above, ten below. Wonderfully average Big smile

Maybe a pity that if I stick to my plans, my next adventure game won't be as funny as this one (the humor was noted as a positive in Jäästä).

Kudos to the organizers. It has been a great year with many good entries and I have enjoyed a lot conpleting mine. We really need contests like msxdev because they provide that extra bit of motivation to finish our projects. Finishing games is hard, is so much better having a deadline as part of contest. Big smile

Congrats santi, that's 3 in a row now! This must have been the victory you're the most proud of, because of the high standard of this year's MSXdev.

Yesterday I've read carefully the whole Final Report document, before coming here. It shows great care in the analysis, and a lot of effort to dig into even the entries with less intuitive gameplay and no manual.

I agree with 99% of what's there, with the remaining 1% being my personal flavouring. There are some entries that I would've been given a bit better score (but just a bit). Wink

It is a great feedback for all developers, and I consider that to be one of the prizes too.

Again, thank you so much for organising this contest all these years, and I wish great success for the new organisers.
(and this is a great opportunity for me to nag them again to support the other MSX generations too. No special categories needed, just freedom and fun! LOL! )

And congratulations for the winners! We had many high quality entries these year, and the final scores were very close to each other on the top entries.

I'm very happy with the results, and even more that we have many high quality games to enjoy. Some will again become favourites that I play from time to time, like Txupinazo, Dr Pill, Tales of Popolon, Zombie Incident, Gommy and many others.

PS: Specific categories for Pixel Art and Chiptunes will be welcome on the next MSXdevs too. Just suggesting. ;)

Thank you for organizing the competition, it was my first, hopefully not last. At least I've correctly predicted first and last place, the rest, based on my personal preference, would be a bit reshuffled.
Organizing a competition and then having to judge it is no easy task. It is understandable you felt it is time to step away and let someone else do it. Hopefully there is already a solid plan to integrate the contest into msx.org. Would be interesting to see the results of all members could have voted.
Hope everyone found his/her favorite entry that they will keep returning to.

@Uninteresting: pls keep us updated about your new adventure. Jäästä is a very nice game.

Thanks A LOT to the organizers!
Also, congratulations to the winner and all other participants. I loved to play most of the games presented! And we had a lot of variety! Puzzles, shmups, rpgs, adventures, etc. Competition was tough, and the MSX community came out as the top winner.

In short: it was a thrill to participate! it was my first, and definitely will not be my last.

@Uninteresting: Jäästä was one of my favorites! I'm looking forward for your next one even if it is not funny!
@mzoran: Subcommander is quite addicting!

Congrats to all the competitors, especially to the winner. I bet the 1st place would go to Triton or Snowboard.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to the organisation and jury and all participants!

My personal favourite this year is Relovo’s Snowboarding. Because I love snowboarding Smile, but also because I think the game design is very polished, with tight controls and great signalling. And of course the music, and in general it’s such a cool tribute to Konami. My only critique would be that I would’ve liked the difficulty and features to ramp up a little faster. The last levels are the most fun, the middle levels could use some more excitement. Either way, I’m looking forward to the cartridge release! Smile

My favourite is Snowboarding as well; I forced myself to play to the last level of Menace from Triton before admitting my defeat as a few small things really started bothering me. By comparison, Snowboarding never got frustrating.

It's no secret what my favourite "underdog" of the compo was, and I hope to one day make it the second entry in MSXdev'20 (that counts) that I have finished. (EDIT: Just did that. 22 minutes and some more.)

I love this game's sarcasm and style, and its soundtrack is so amazing I got hooked. Big smile

I totally agree with places 1,2 and 3 (maybe not in that exact order)!
@thegeps: special congrats to you and your game project! I followed the developement of your shooter for the last months, and although there seems to be some trouble to finish the game you made it! I guess you collected many experiences on the whole developement process for a game.

@defdanny thank you. Well, I had troubles because I had to hurry to deliver within deadline. I've hopefully fixed all that matter during August and now only ending gfx are missing. I'll add them anyway, so if there will be some interest in a physical version It can be done. In any case MSX community will have a complete game Wink

Congrats to the winner and all participants that have made this edition an amazing (and crowdy) one! And of course to the organizers/jury for all the efforts put to host one hell of a successful MSXdev edition. The future of the contest is now uncertain, but I’m pretty sure that MRC folks will also give their best to keep up the legacy of such a classic event for us all MSXers that is the MSXdev contest. Now is time to play every game and enjoy. Long live MSXdev! Smile

I think that Freedom Fighter's end credits are the right way I have to thank you all...

Well as you know End Game gfx are still missing but at the end of the credits there is a spoiler about what it happens. Read it at your own risk!

At the very end of the video there is a small gift to you all too. As I said many times before, when you beat the game a code will be released depend of which code you have entered before play. So in this case none, like you have beaten the game for the first time... It allow you to enable a music test, so you'll be able to listen to all the game musics.
Remember to enter the code when you restart your rom next time before play, so if you'll be able to complete the game you'll be rewarded with next code (that you'll insert next time to be sure to receive the 3rd and last)

Thank you all for playing!

(I should donate sometime Smile)

Still wondering if an MSX2 compo (category) next to the MSX is something to consider. (As long as interest is big enough..?) But for now it's probably a bit early to start talking about ed. 2021 already Wink

Not too early... the announcement of passing the torch to MRC wasn't very specific on which named persons are going start organizing the next. But as long as it isn't everybody's responsibility, i.e., nobody's responsibility, I'm satisfied.

Unless I'm the only person named (unlikely).

(More seriously -- I have wondered if I could be of help in organizing it; I wouldn't be able to participate, but that would be no big loss.)

I don't think it was the cause of 5th rank. It was low playability and bugs that were in version 1.1, the one I delivered within the deadline and so the one they judged (and they did it right, rules are rules). I agree with their explanations, and a 5th rank with my very first game I think is a good result. Even more if you think that I've learned asm doing the game. I studied it few time before (just to do the smooth scrolling routine, a challenge against myself), but I've learned all I've put in the game in the making...
Next time I will have an entry only if the game will be complete and tested from other people. Else I'll skip msxdev and focus on coding until.the game will be complete.
Now I have to draw endgame sequence gfx and the game will be complete. Maybe I'll modify the title screen, adding details and colors (if there will be enough room, I still have to check) but basically the spaceship shape and orientation will be the same. If I'll be able I'll fix the wings perspective

Did you read https://www.msxdev.org/2020/09/10/msxdev20-jury-revealed/ ??

Quote:

First off – for us, the current MSXdev Team (Konamito and John Hassink), this will be our final round in the ring.

We’re relinquishing the keys to the kingdom to the MSX Resource Center from now on, in great trust that Cortazar and Robsy’s legacy is in good hands, just as they trusted the both of us with the exact same thing.

It is true that the MRC team will take over the future MSXdev organization. After the great work of the previous hosts, this is a great honor and a challenge that we certainly can't face without help.
We will consult each other thoroughly and try to develop a concept to continue this great work.
However, we will not rush into this, that would certainly be a mistake.
