Within days after the release of the previous version a new version of MSX.emu - an MSX emulator for Android based on blueMSX - has been released. A short changelog this time:

  • Increased auto-frameskip precision from micro-seconds to nano-seconds
  • Now always use a monotonic clock so it behaves properly if NTP adjusts your clock while playing
  • Fixed some problems with activating/saving the Fast CPU->GPU Copy and Direct Texture options

MSX.emu can be bought for € 6,19 in Google Play.

This emulator always makes me wish for its big brother to have d3d support.

why pay for something (more then $6.99???) if you can have it for free and feel a sense of accomplishment by helping openMSX get even better? Cool

I don't mind doing both.

I probably wouldn't have such a problem with this guy if some of the money went back to the blueMSX team. It's like forking out $12.99 (or whatever it's now) for a copy of fMSX.

BlueMSX team don't seem to mind, and I figure they could benefit from this project as well. Also, we don't know if the msx.emu author donated to blueMSX or not....

As for fMSX, the android version's cheaper than that. And in that case the money goes to the original author anyway (minus whatever fees Google asks).

dvik has posted this on MRC on 6/09/12 :

"I just want to say that the author of MSX.emu is feeding back several improvements to the blueMSX code base (he does have write access to the blueMSX SVN repository) and is a very honest GPL developer.

MSX.emu is furthermore sharing the UI with other emus so improvements in the framework benefits all emulators (I guess fMSX has that benefit too to some extent). Whether he choose to charge money for the work is really his decision, but it is a fair bit of time invested in the port so its not even close to stealing code and make profit of someone else work."

I noticed on sourceforge that d3d support was actually added to blueMSX a while ago. Will we see that in a release soon?

This is indeed included for next full release (2.9), but at the moment, the date is not yet fixed.

Still I think it's very steep what he's asking for it. And again that's my personal opinion.

in the MSX world 6 euros is actually next to nothing, IMO.

Ergo: those who think the price is steep won't buy it, those who think it's a reasonable price will.

We're still working out some bugs related to ARM and trying to find the best way for OSD controls.

Oh, I was getting the idea you knew about some different port of blueMSX for Android I hadn't heard about.

The OpenMSX beta is already on my phone as well, I like it too.
