SD Snatcher ACE is an ongoing project to remake the MSX-exclusive classic SD Snatcher. The project was recently announced by dangaioh in our Spanish MSX forum and is still in development. For the curious, here's a quick YouTube preview.

The remake is created with RPG Maker VX ACE and contains nicely adapted graphics. Dangaioh has granted us permission to add a demo version of the remake in our MSX Downloads corner.

At the moment Dangaioh is looking for one or more musicians who would like to help out in remaking the games soundtrack as well. If you are interested in taking on this task, feel free to use the contact form on Dangaioh's msx.org profile.

Very cool!! Looks great, can't wait until it's finished! But an English version would be much appreciated!

I was thinking on remaking some SD-Snatcher songs later this year, if I can find the time I wouldn't mind contributing some tracks. I think I can create a nice version of the battle song Smile

Technically, would it be possible to select a composer within the game itself? Because what you want is consistency in tone, not a single set with 5 different composers each having their own sound and style.

The SD-Snatcher soundtrack has 54 songs. Unless you want to wait a few years for a complete soundtrack, I doubt there is a single person that will finish composing/arranging all those songs.

Also don't forget that SD-Snatcher had like 5 composers working on the OST Wink

Yea, but they all used the same chip with the same sound palette. For arrangements this is quite a different story, where synths 'n styles are far more diverse.

Also, as for the amount of songs, covers (like the ones in our database) are usually a bit longer and feature more layers 'n details. If you stick to the original lengths then this is less work.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I put myself if anyone wants the ost is not obligated eh XD ...
on issues of music I do not get involved because they do not.
but I think a composer who knows, what can cost make another version of a song? ¿1 week at most?
That would be 54 weeks, come one year.
I do not believe that it will cost less to make the graphics of the game.
I'm in 1 day 1 or 2 enemies facts.

what you see in the demo, to manufacture cost me four months and there is still much to be done, the issue of ost no rush. but I say that is optional and if someone one or more they feel like.

it's okay to put the original man, yours would be renewed as the gameplay, the graphics and a little history because the ost for improved without losing "the twist"

but insist that worst we've proposed only if you do.

thanks, hope you like the demo

remember that once the factory and can not do anything else in the game.

My free time is rare, but I feel like giving a shot at the battle/fight songs. I have some ideas on what to do with it and still maintain the funky style of the original soundtrack.

If you want to, you can use my old SD-Snatcher songs:

And there are a lot of SD-Snatcher songs in our downloads database that you can use as a placeholder. If you want me to, I can ask MrRudi and Bart if they give permission to use their songs in the remake!

So, is this actually what I suggested at 07:12? A set o' covers by one person for consistency, and then multiple sets? Iirc there was a construction like this with those Braingames remakes.

I think dangaioh means that he doesn't want to mix the old SCC tracks with new remakes. So, as long as ALL tracks from SD-Snatcher are getting a remake... the amount of composers doesn't really matter. (Aesthetics aside)

EXACT
I do not care as long as there is not much difference between songs.
But I do not want is to mix and scc remakes.
or any or all scc remakes.
because if the mixture is not well

example
This forum downloaded 11 songs and 2 songs jorito
and are perfectly compatible.
therefore we would have 13 songs ready.

and only 41 more missing
XD XD XD

Are you translating the game from Japanese? If not, wouldn't it be an idea to try and get some kind of agreement with the project melancholia team and then create the game in English based on the texts translated by them and then translate that to Spanish?

No text file.
lyrics are directly and manually ingame.
to translate it must be done manually.
rpg maker for previous versions if a bar program you extracted all text in a. txt, but not for this newest.
I will continue investigating.

d-fader wrote:

The game has the texts of the Spanish version of MSX2
mixed with the new translation in parts melancholy project

I'm not doing in English because my English is very bad, when the game is finished or seek solution to translate it if I can extract the text, it would pass to translate.
I would also say that many texts are being invented by me or filling gaps that had the original story.

things like the death of the woman gibson, gibson dog alice etc ...

if anyone knows the rpg maker and know how to handle, I can pass the demo to be open and translating, for me there is no problem

I know of a full version of the new translation of melancholy project, only the demo they released.

Thank you.

Nice demo, couldn't speed up the text in game Wink
Hope someone can help you with the English translation.

About the music, the SCC character is realy nice so a re-arrangement can take away that nice atmosphere in the game.
Maybe it's an idea to make an enhanched version of the original tracks like the way it is was done in Manbow2 demo?

I have been playing with the demo version a bit, and I really love the graphics style, it's a very good mix of the original graphics and a more modernized pixel art. Keep up the good work!

Also really like how complete the demo version already is, with the entire demos and such. The only thing I was missing are the blinking eyes, moving mouths and talk 'noises' when you speak with somebody Smile

No worries... I transcribed the complete OST 1:1 for Jorito, so he's got all he needs and needn't worry about the boring job of note picking Wink

btw... Working on the final in game tune... Must say... Some tunes made my hair go grey... They're rather complex...

@dangaioh: looks great!

I'm working on the music part of this project. Currently there's 17 tracks about done, so about 1/3 of the total amount of tracks. It's a lot of work though, and I expect to need at least until the end of this year before it's finished. And I'm not really happy yet with some of the songs, so I expect to do quite a bit of work in the final mixing stage as well Smile

Hopefully I can find some time to finish the last bit of work on the last intro demo and then release a sneak preview movie of some stuff Smile

Wow!!! This is great work. Truly very, very nice!!! I was about to go to bed last night, when I stumbled across this article about SD Snatcher Ace. This is, by far, my favorite game of all time! I played it so much when I was younger, and even now I'm still playing it every once in a while. Love it still.
So I made an account, and downloaded your demo. I haven't finished the demo, cause I rushed it too much last night. Got killed by the first enemy on the 2nd floor of the bomb building >_< But I have to say you did an amazing job man! It really feels like the original. The maps and enemies are very nice! And I like the fact that you put so much more content inside. Like all the new items, and equipment system! Very interesting! Even though my understanding of Spanish is next to nothing, I enjoyed it very much ^^

Okay. So, I've been using Rpg Maker VX too for some time, and last week made the switch to Ace. And believe it or not, I had the almost exact same idea that you have! I wanted to make SD Snatcher too with RPGVX, except not a remake, but more of an unofficial sequel...(Now some fans may get really sceptic, but I still think it's a cool idea...).
I even made some sprites already, and was creating the menu's too. I haven't nearly made as much stuff as you already have, and bumbed into a problem too. I want to have the same battlesystem, but my scripting is not good enough to make it myself. I got to the point where you select "Attack", then choose your Weapon, and then go to enemy target selection. And thats where I am stuck. I cant figure out how to get to select different parts of the enemy, so you can shoot off his legs and other parts.
All in all I'm stuck with a lot of questions (even more after seeing your project xD).

So are you doing all of this project on your own? Even the scripting? Like I said, I know how to change and create custom menu's and stuff, but the battlesystem is still a bit hard for me to figure out.

I got a lot more questions, but I wanted to leave it for now Tongue

Again, very nice job Dangaioh! I hope you read my comment, and understand. And find the time to answer Wink
Greetings from the Netherlands!
