ObsoNET2

In 2004, the very first ethernet cartridge for MSX was released: ObsoNET. Recently, some of our members wondered what happened with ObsoNet, which inspired the Russian MSX enthusiast Caro to have a go on re-creating the cartridge. So far, attempts to create an ObsoNET compatible cartridge failed because the way the GAL16V8 PLD chip should be programmed was unknown. Caro, however, managed to re-design ObsoNET in a way that it no longer needs this PLD - making it even easier to build. From a programmer's point of view, the difference between an ObsoNET2 and the original ObsoNET cartridge can be neglected, because the only missing feature in ObsoNET2 is the mirroring of registers of the RTL8019 into the MSX's RAM, which is not used in any existing ObsoNET software.

Well, the reactions are overwhelming. I think this is quite an achievement. The question is of course if people will actually start making this, or just wait for Denyonet to happen. MSX'ers seem to be accustomed to waiting, so prolly the latter. :/

Well, it's probably very cool but a guy like me doesn't really understand things, like, what it is and such. Smile

as for "what is it" - caro re-invented the ethernet card on MSX which is now easy to produce. Ask caro for more details if you want to connect your MSX to the net.
