During the MRC Bounce Challenge, Infinite surprised the MSX community their 512k Moonsound, 512k MSX2 (7Mhz) demo Sphere. Infinite's entry to the MRC Airwaves Challenge is a Trackmo which uses the same animation engine, 4motion, which now even runs on ordinary 3.58Mhz MSX2 computers. So if you have a 512kB Moonsound and at least 512kB RAM, sit back, relax and have a look at Wings.

By joining the MRC Airwaves Challenge you can not only get eternal fame by getting your music published on the MRC, if you are the winner of the challenge, you will also get some cool airplay on a retrocomputing music show aired on the Dutch radio-station Enschede FM. After the broadcast, the show will become available on the internet, thus getting a lot of attention all over the world. Possibly more entries than only the winner of the challenge wil be aired on poke -1,170's Airwaves show.

Although the deadline of the MRC Airwaves Challenge has passed, you still have the chance to send in your music until Thursday, March 3rd, 23:59 CET with a 1 point penalty on the rating. If you'd like to do so, make sure you send your entries before said time and date to airwaves@msx.org. Good luck!

Traditionally there's no 'swap disk' notification again ^____^ .. just let disk 1 load .. when it stops .. swap disk Smile

(..and press space!)

I tested it @ BlueMSX 2.1, it runs perfect, use the msx2/512k config ..

By the way... uh... does this demo like DOS2? It crashes overhere.

Would be a pity if not (looking at the loading times and disk swap)...

And no, this version is not DOS2 compatible yet. But aside from that, Infinite has a couple more nice features planned for the 4-Motion engine.

I will look into supporting DOS2, but for Wings this means that you need more than 512k to run it, since Wings leaves no free space at all. Same goes for R800 DRAM mode.
Also R800 and 7MHz won't work because of the fixed mbwave player in here. This is not likely to be fixed anytime soon. But when DOS2 is implemented, I'll make sure it temporarily disables R800 mode.
Proper loading and disk switch indicators will appear at some point. But don't hold your breath, they may just be cursed. Wink
A minor update may follow in a week or two.

Again ... and again ... and again ... only LZH files on MRC when zipped DSK files should be better to promote the new MSX demos for the MSX emulator's users
(a precision : it's only the MRC responsability !)

And as you add always a msx;org file, you could also add a little help.txt with the following content :

How to create DSK files ? For each apart LZH file, proceed as following :
1 - Unlzh (with WinRAR for example) the MRC archive in a new directory
2 - Use WinZIP to archive again these files in a .zip file (it's the trick to give the Archive Attribute to each file of the LZH package)
3 - Unzip your brand new zip archive
4 - Use DiskManager to create the DSK file with all these files and the 2 MSX-DOS1 files

And after the missing help.txt file, now the comments on the demo :

As usually, the Infinity team surprises the MSX community with perfectionist realisations, beautiful musics, different atmospheres and inventive animations.
It was already the case with Spheres, it is still the case with Wings. High-quality and creativity are the keywords of the Infinite team, one of the most actives teams of the 21st century on the MSX scene. Keep on with this excellent work !

In another words : everyone must see this demo .... and if you get problems to create the DSK files, just send me an e-mail :

benoit.delvaux@freebel.net

I'll send you the 2 DSK files, so you can run them without any problem in blueMSX or openMSX !

Don't forget to wait that the loading drive is finished with disk A to insert disk B and press on the space-bar !!!!

Edwin: no problem, I’ve got 2 MB, and I think it’s a fair tradeoff for DOS2 support (even though it’s better not to have to, of course Smile).

With regard to 7MHz... Hmm... I’m pretty sure I watched the disk version at 7MHz, and it worked perfectly.

@Mars, the reason for the LZH compression is that real MSX'es can uncompress that. I dunno if you remember any MSX BBS'es, but afaik they all used LZH. ZIP or RAR don't work on real MSX (afaik).
I understand that you encourage the use of ZIP as the group of emulator-only users grow each day and you, understandable, want BlueMSX users to be able to get software as easy as possible.
In our current position we do not have the ability to offer downloads in multiple formats, but your request is already on our minds. As you want MRC users to have more influence on MRC: you will get your ZIP's in time. MMMkay?

Bart, I know that MRC has an extended choice of downloadable software for MSX and that you have at least 2 problems to offer all this software in 2 formats (LZH for MSX computers, zipped DSK for emulator's users) :
- a problem of time
- a problem of webspace (and probably of hosting cost)

I don't ask in a first step that all this software would be available in both formats, but as you organise challenges to show that MSX developers are still very creative in 2005, you should at least offer the products of these challenges in both formats. So, you can more easily attract new generation of fans to MSX, not only the game side, but also the demo side.

By the way, I know that some developers send you DSK files and you extract the files onthe DSK files to create LZH archives .... In some way, you don't respect the will of these developers, that know that the emulation part of MSX is growing each day.

We have indeed requests from emulator's users that are very 'mad' with this obscure (for us, not for me) compressing format. Besides, they don't know if the disk must be MSX-DOS 1 or 2 formatted and/or they must add the MSX-DOS 1 or 2 files ....

And as I've said, MSX is not only for games, but also for creativity with demos, musicdisks, .... New MSX fans must access easily to the new software.
That's why offering all new softs in 2 formats should be really appreciated and at the same time, it should promote better the MSX system to the new generation. I think that it's also the role of such a great site !

m2k: The reason offer the files in LZH is because it works on -all- platforms. Yes, in the future we will offer DSK (and screenshots!), but this takes some time and at the moment we don't have the spare time to implement this in a way we think is useful. All I can say is: have patience, my friend, it will be rewarded. In the mean time, you could consider an LZH-as-disk feature in blueMSX Tongue

Interesting suggestion Tongue

Actually, I've always thought that one of the future extensions of the dir-as-dsk feature could concern files compressed in one single ZIPPED file ... So, why not one single LZHED file ?
