Almost a year ago, the third edition of MSXdev was launched by Pitpan. The success of 2004 (which resulted in 16 new MSX games) was even surpassed with no less than 21 new MSX1 games released. Now, Patriek Lesparre (GuyveR800), has completed his task as the juror of the challenge and the prize winners have been revealed.

The game that receives the honorary title of best MSXdev'05 game (and has been awarded with a Panasonic FS-A1-ST MSX turboR computer) is none other than The Cure. The prize for the most original game concept has been awarded to Parachuteless Joe. On the MSXdev'05 results page you can find the full results and comments of the jury.

Thanks go out to GuyveR800 for his kind words to the MSX Resource Center, his narrow self-fulfilled mind and his complete incapability of reconsidering and admitting his own mistakes. Ever heard of the concept of cooling down? Damn! Even your one year's (and more than well deserved) ban was removed months ago.

Just for the record... the decision to award the most original game concept with an MSX T-Shirt a developer was made just before it was announced that GuyveR800'd become the main juror, and the only reason why we postponed the announcement was exactly because Guyver has problems seeing MRC's actions for what they are, instead of actions-reactions against his personality. Too bad that even now, he has to use the success of the MSXdev challenge as a messageboard for his own frustrations. As said so many, many, many times before... if there's something on your mind, you know perfectly well where to contact us, Guyv.

Ah well... big time congratz go out to the prize winners of the challenge, you have deserved them! Too bad not every entry could win a prize Wink

Robsy; thanx for the contest and efforts. note: Why did you allow Guyv to put up a text like that (which holds some agresive texts against MRC). It's about the contest, not personal grudges. aaight. (guyver, I know yer reading this filth. Why dude? it only proves you ARE that poor sap. You're only making a clown appearence.. tssss!)

Hope to see more games in future Smile (or was this a one time only... we'll c)

Congrats to the winners!! (I won my bet, btw!)

I like the way the way Patriek has rated and commented the games. That's the way programmers see the good and bad points of their creations and should encourage them to improve the results on their next creations. A constructive critic.

The comments about the stuff all we know, they're totally offtopic, IMHO.

I'm very disappointed that Patriek used this totally unrelated MSX dev '05 contest jury report to once again express himself very aggressively towards MRC. This totally destroys the very positive thing of the MSX dev '05 contest IMO... Why can't he just separate things? The contest has nothing to do with politics or groups or people that seem to hate each other... What a low thing to do... Man, what a shame! Crying

This makes me truely very sad.

GuyveR800 went down to the next level. How low can someone go Sad This is really so pathetic to use this method to "get back" at MRC. I must say I also son't understand why the people behind MSXDEV '05 allowed this type of nonse on their site... It really gives the whole MSXDEV '05 a bad taste...

Thank God I am too stupid to make something creative, but I wouldn't want my creations to me mentioned in such a document...

uh, that was mentioned in the juryreport ..

* Depending on your MSX model, writing illegal values to PSG register 7 (specifically bits 6 and 7) can cause a short-circuit in your MSX. This can cause anything from non-working joystick to a broken MSX.

I thought Caverns of Titan is a bit underrated, although the game is way too difficult for me. Can't say the KANA-button annoys me as I don't have any. Do Japanese MSX-1s have one?

The Cure is the well-deserved winner, followed closely by Universe: Unknown and Caverns of Titan.

On Japanese and Korean machines, the KANA/HANGUL is actually the CODE key on European and Brazilian machines, but it works differently :

- CODE must be combined with another key to produce a character
- KANA must be pressed alone, it's a balance key between international characters and Kana or Hangul characters.

The KANA key exists also on Arabic and Russian machines, giving access to Arabic or Russian characters.

An idea for a next MSXdev challenge:

create an MSX2 game (any) with the same specs as Konami had: 128kB MegaROM, with or without SCC, 64k RAM, 64 or 128k VRAM.

Maybe you could limit the rom space at 32K or 64K also for msx2
in order to have doable projects...

For those who like statistics here are some more numbers, obtained using 'wc' (the word counting program, not a toilet).

GuyveR800s report contains 2274 words, 116 of which are devoted to his issues with the MRC.
Snouts reaction contains 184 words, 157 of which are devoted to his issues with GuyveR800.

For these word counts I have judged the texts on a paragraph by paragraph basis, and each paragraph containing offensive words against the other party is counted as fully devoted to issues.

Back to the topic, congratulations to the winners, and thumbs up to GuyveR800 for the comments about the games.

Noooooo.. do you realize how crap 16kb is?? Really very little space to unpack things to.. small game-maps, small tunes (scc tunes would be a bit problematic!) etc.
Directly using all that stuff from ROM means you can't have all that compressed in ROM, meaning that a megarom really is a megarom, rather than a compressed 4megarom. Big smile

arnold_m - I actually feel it's a mild reaction to someone who's been repeatedly calling me a fascist for over 18 months now. MRC had trouble with the MDI for expressions much milder than the one Guyver choses to use. I do see the point you're trying to make, but I'm not a man without emotions you know. The whole situation got me inches away from dropping MSX altogether multiple times, and I'm just totally fed up by GuyveR bringing it up time and time again. I'd hoped he had at least cooled down a little bit by now. I'm just hurt and disappointed, that's all. Speaking of stats tho, I think at least 99% of my contributions on the MRC have nothing to do with personal conflicts whatsoever :)

~nuff said, I hope.

As for MSXdev'06: I'd love to see a stretch of the rules indeed. It worked very well last time, so it seems only right to take a next step once again! :)

to bad the discussion is ongoing, even after this time. Guyver's still upset, I can get into that. But taking a juryreport to vent this anger is even more than just lame. And Robsy (the contest master) not taking actions for this is strange imho. This is not the place to take personal grudges to the next level. It's a game compo, it's MSX and it's GOOD. So why did G had to shadow this GREAT initiative with nasty words. And why didn't Robsy act like he should? (it's never to late robsy!)

I think this is all a dirty stain on what supposed to be so cool. Fix the report {moderated}. Where's the Dynamic Duo when you need them. They could make a nice "demo" of this all. gheheh. Crazy
