A bit more than a month ago, the MSX1 game development competition MSXdev'06 was launched. With more than 7 months to go to the deadline, a lot has been announced already. Time for an overview:
- Brain Eaters - a new MSX development team, featuring Alfonso D.C. (Dioniso) and WYZ - are to release a shoot'em-up game called TT Virus. The game is the successor of T Virus, which was released in MSXdev'04
- TNI are to release a platform shooting adventure called Cyberware: Chapter IV ~ Katarsis episode II ~. The game is to be the first chapter of a story which has been worked on ever since 1994
- XL2S Entertainment, who won MSXdev'05 with their Vampire Killer-inspired platform game The Cure are to join with another platform game called Lux. The game is to create a new gaming genre on its own, which is -according to the developers- platform-action-adventure-fun. As if that isn't enough, the team is also to join with Dash! a game inspired by Boulderdash. Certainly, both games will be highly anticipated
- Last years' runner-ups Infinite, who impressed the MSX community time and time again with such releases as Universe: Unknown and their 4-motion demo's, are to release a platform game, on which they took care to reveal as little information as possible
- Karoshi Corporation are to release Malaika - Prehistoric quest, a platform game. Perhaps needless to say, one of the Karoshi team members is Robsy Petrus (Pitpan), founder of the already legendary MSXdev challenges
- Cas Cremers, Jesús Pérez Rosales and Philip Pera are the three main judges of MSXdev'06 and are to decide who is going to win the MSX FS-A1GT turboR computer. To find more about this jury, you can check the related announcement over here
On the MSXdev website you can already have a small impression of all games that have been announced already, revealing often impressive titlescreens of each game. You can also find out how you can support the competition by offering prizes for sub-contests. With this many projects already announced, it looks like MSXdev'06 is -like its predecessors- going to take MSX1 game development to the next level once again.
