A new MSXdev'09 entry has been announced: Menace. It will be the return of The New Image to the yearly MSXdev arena, after games like Pointless Shooter, Pointless Platform and the canceled game Cyberware: Chapter IV ~ Katarsis episode II. This new game Menace will be inspired by Galaxy Wars (1979) and has modest specifications: 32KB ROM, 8KB RAM.

There's roughly a month left before the deadline knocks the door. At the moment, eleven entries have been announced, and there's at least one unannounced entry in the making. In little over one month we'll know which entries survived Murphy's natural selection!

It only includes the enhanced graphics, It has a trick to put on the main caracter 5 colours, spending only 2 sprites.
On the ground we made this trick too to put 3 colors on a 8 pixel line and mix colours, we made a very colorful game with the illusion of more than 16 colours on an msx1, if you can count on the status screen of the msxdev page, it has 29 colours on a sc2 msx1. The original game is all green, you can change the video settings on Bluemsx emulator a green monitor ;-)

Wow. At first I thought it was a port of the Amiga game with the same name (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXBpMCVicic). I've played it in a friend's house long time ago.
Anyway, very nice game! It's amazing what you can do mixing colors with these tricks! How many colors in so little pixels!
Can't wait to see the final result!

I'm looking forward to this entry.

However, the fact that one of the jurors is also a member of one of the participating groups, could raise some eyebrows.

It is hard for Menace to win this year, because of that you mention.

I'm sure the competition has a way to deal with it. Everyone in the jury are nice and honest people, and I guess that you're not allowed to vote on your own productions or something. I'm not too worried. The game looks really cool and will be able to compete for the 1st price.

@Thom & Paulbrk: MSXdev contests are for people to release games. No matter who. I suppose you've missed this line in the contest rules: "If there is any conflict of interests between a jury member and a participant, that member will not be allowed to give her or his opinion on that game or games". So this game will have the balance of 2 jury votes instead of 3: that can be better or worse, but of course this project, as every presented entry, can be in the battle for the 1st place.

Hum-Ham ... I think that there should be some (demo winner) that didn't get enough satisfaction sometime ago on the MSXDev. After all, it is a fact that NOT everybody like racing games ... even when some games implemented advanced sound (SCC that should not count, only the standard PSG) and software scrolling. Save gaming should be "dealing" through cassette tapes! Even for those that like those types of games their could be passion ally hating some titles for personal reasons (not particularly your title).

Not anybody is happy, but:
After all, sometimes (most of the TIME) some clone of a famous game earn the prize for one of the "best games of the YEAR" ...

Nice graphics for the Menace game ... But it seems familiar to me (could be a " generic type" of shooting game) !?

Three times in a *Roll* ...

" The MSX releasing fest, the MSXdev contest, has a new team aboard. It is time for the well known MSX development team The New Image to come up with a great announce: an arcade game that is their interpretation of the 1979 arcade game Galaxy Wars. We will wait anxious for its release, that's for sure! Just a month and a few days to go, MSX developers out there! Let's MSXdev'09 everyone, yay "!

It is nice that there are some information on the MSXDev about this game! Now just one question ... Is there any difference between the words "fest" and "feast" !?Running Naked in a Field of Flowers

Actually, I have some titles near the end of development (but not for MSXDev) ... I had some clones (maybe because of it that this Menace game seems familiar) and some others for the Mini Game Compo (4KB entries) .

The fishing game (not submitted yet) for the mini game competition is similar in concept (some harpoon need to shoot some fishes), some lines of fishes moves in the horizontal lines (from left to right or in some cases from right to left) and the weapon need to shoot them. I am holding this title because of the time and a Colour problem, since the fishes only had one or two colour for each tile.

Other sources.
I also have some mini games for Palm OS that are near finished (it is easy to convert them to play on MSX 2/2+) ...

Well, I had some stuff on Geocities ... But their closed their doors.
I think that there should be some (*FREE*) alternatives on the NET. But, you can send a e-mail to me and I will send some stuff that you could try. My e-mail address is in the profile, but Yahoo is erasing a lot of messages due to the massive amounts of "*SPAM*" mail.

I also have a small racing game that I will send to the Mini Game Compo.
