Musicchip poll down, MRC-boss poll up

It's high time for the last poll announcement of 2008! Prior to presenting the new poll, let's have a look at the outcome of the musicchip poll from November/December. How do we feel about a possible 'alien' musicchip in our MSX? After 63 honest votes (remember, these votes have been made by people who have an account), here is the result:

  1. No, what we have is ok, but trackers must improve 63.49%
  2. No, for reasons of support/content 17.46%
  3. Yes please! 11.11%
  4. No, for reasons of retro 7.94%

Conclusion? While opinions about videochips were highly polarized, we seem quite confident with the musicchips we have. We do however recognize the lack of quality tools/trackers in order to get the most out of these chips. What was once a hype in the early 90's, namely the creation of trackers and other music tools, seems to have resulted in applications that -seen from today's perspective- didn't stand the test of time. It also appears that few programmers -if any- are interested in creating and/or finishing a new tracker, while at the same time the call from musicians isn't as loud as it was in the early 90's. Since the revival of MSX1 game development in this new century many composers find solutions in crossdevelopment such as the famous Vortex Tracker. With several creative processes already being 'outsourced' to crossdevelopment (like coding and drawing), perhaps crossdevelopment is simply the solution for the upcoming years. The future knows, but won't tell us until we're there.

And so, another poll goes down into the steady stream of almost 90 polls by now. The year 2008 is coming to an end, so as a crew we were a bit in doubt as for what poll to organize during the holidays. As we've already done xmas-activity polls before, and we didn't feel like doing a serious poll for these jolly days, we've decided to do a not too serious poll this time.
Most members of the MRC crew are known to most of you. It could be that you don't know a few members (like our Russian translators) simply because you don't read the Russian version of MRC but most crew members are known to you because of their presence at MSX fairs, their presence in discussions on our forums (or forums on other MSX websites), their function as newsposters, or perhaps simply because you know them personally. So, you knowing us: who do you feel is in charge of MRC anno today? Who's the boss? For a complete overview of crewmembers, you can click the Who we are-menu at the left.
The outcome of the first few days of this poll won't influence the scheduled crew meeting this Saturday, apart from Rikusu who will celebrate either result with a beer. As a final reminder: during this MRC meeting, the results of the MEGA-challenge will be judged and made known to the world, so stay tuned that day if you participated in one or more entries.

That being said, high time to cast your vote. If you have an idea for a interesting poll, send your idea to poll@msx.org and we will consider running your suggestion for a month.

Today, we had the MRC crew meeting that is mentioned in this newspost. The good news is: we finally have the results of the MRC megachallenge! The bad news is, that you will have to wait for them until tomorrow; then they will be published. Just so you know Wink.
