On november 22nd we started the MRC Snowfall Challenge. The purpose of this programming contest is creating a demo for MSX which contains an effect in which you can see snow falling. You are allowed to create this demo in any programming language and on any MSX system (ranging from the most simple MSX1 computer to an MSX turboR with 4096kB RAM, GFX9000 and Moonsound). Of course you are allowed to add other demo-elements as well. In this forum topic you can see a very simple example in MSX-BASIC. Here, you can also discuss the contents and its (your?) submissions in general. The first entry was already received, created by Nyyrikki in the strange programming language called 'BrainFuck'. You can download it here. We would like you to join in in this contest and send in your snowfall creations as well. Why? Because developing software for MSX is fun! Need more reasons? Well, ok, you can also win one of the following prizes:
- ASCII MSX Magazine 2, signed by chief editor Eiichi Sato, donated by ASCII Corporation Japan and MSX Association
- An official MSX T-Shirt, size L, donated by ASCII Corporation Japan and MSX Association
- The official Pleasure Hearts soundtrack on CD, donated by Primitive Sound
- A Toshiba MSX-Audio module, boxed.
- An MSX Joystick port to PlayStation controller adaptor.
- An official MSX Magazine Festival T-Shirt, size L, donated by ASCII Corporation Japan and MSX Association
- An MSX Joystick port to USB convertor (which only can be used as power device, e.g. to charge PDA's or mobile phones)
The deadline for this programming contest is January 5th, 2004, so you have little over a month to complete your entry (or entries). So get a move on! Show the true power of MSX, and show off your MSX programming skills!!
