On November 22nd 2003, we started the MSX Resource Center Snowfall Challenge. On January 7th 2004, the challenge was closed. In this timeperiod, it has showed that we have hit the right spot. Our beloved community is ready for some serious developing and the challenge received no less than 25 entries! Everyone was free to use the programming language he prefered and so we received entries in basic (including a oneliner), assembly, C and even brainfuck.

Now we have to decide who is going to win the cool prizes we have: an ASCII MSX Magazine 2, signed by chief editor Eiichi Sato, an official MSX T-Shirt, size L, the official Pleasure Hearts soundtrack on CD, a boxed Toshiba MSX-Audio module, an MSX Joystick port to PlayStation controller adaptor, an official MSX Magazine Festival T-Shirt, size L and an MSX Joystick port to USB convertor.

We can now reveal that the MRC Snowfall Challenge Jury will be headed by Wammes Witkop. Especially the Dutch members of our community know him as a true icon of the MSX scene. For years, he has been the publisher of the best MSX magazine in Holland, MSX Computer Magazine, later MSX Computer & Club Magazine. At the moment he is, amongst other activities, publisher of one of the largest PC magazines in the Benelux, PC-Active.

Together with the administrators, webmasters and moderators of the MSX Resource Center, he will judge the demos and decide the winners. His votes will count the heaviest of them all, so it is really Wammes who will make the difference.

The results of the jury will be published on the MSX Resource Center this fridaynight, then you will know if you're amongst the winners of one of the above mentioned prizes. We will bring the prizes to the Oss MSX Fair 2004, so keep your eyes on our website and see you there! Of course, if you can't make it to come to Oss, your prize will be shipped to you by mail.

If you haven't checked the entries yet, you can still do so, just take a look at our Downloads database here

Wholey moley! In our humoristic intro demo we used some names of (former) active MSX people as some sort of respect from the cru to what they did to the MSX scene, ...even Wammes is mentioned in this demo (as the editor) Smile

I hope this won't badly influence the judgement... Apart from that, AWESOME Wammes!

It's an honour to have such an icon break down my entry. Smile

Any revelations on any other judge members?

The jury will be Wammes and the admins, webmasters and moderators of the MRC, just as the newsposting states. If you want to know who they are, check the 'Who We Are'-section Smile

Overwhelmed by the huge amount of entries, the judges need some extra time.

Can we already accept the fact, that this challenge is newer going to be judged?

... seems to be just an other typical MSX project. First comes "sorry for the little delay" and then you don't hear from it again.

I understand you don't like the delay, but can ensure you the challenge will be judged. And we'll do things a bit more prepared next time. Wink

MRC said:

"On november 22nd we started the MRC Snowfall Challenge. The purpose of this programming contest is creating a demo for MSX which contains an effect in which you can see snow falling"

"We would like you to join in in this contest and send in your snowfall creations as well. Why? Because developing software for MSX is fun! Need more reasons?"

No comments. And I think that "Well, ok, you can also win one of the following prizes:" is not important.

Hey [WYZ], I don't think NYYRIKKI cares about the prizes, I think he just likes some competition Smile

I don't talk about him. I only said my opinion about the challenge and programming on MSX, coz I don't spect nor results nor prizes. To show here my poor ASM programing is enought. Sorry if somebody thought that.

I think, that it is quite obvious, that I don't get even the T-skirt. I think, that it is just fair to all of attendees, that the result is published. Anyway... maybe I have some chance when it comes to random picked winner... at least I made 3 demos. :-9
