The Japanese website Impress Watch have published an article on the roots of Castlevania. With the release of Castlevania - Lament of Innocence on Sony Playstation 2 the website thought it would be a good idea to look back to the first versions of the game. Of course the article mentions the MSX2 version of Vampire Killer, which was released on October 30th, 1986. The game had previously been released for other Home Computers on DISK and ROM, but this version was by far the most feature-rich one. The article continues with many screenshots and facts on further versions of the Castlevania series and a complete chronological summary of the game series.

"The game had previously been released for other Home Computers on DISK and ROM"
Not true, it had only been released on Famicom Disk System one month earlier.

Famicom Disk System was NES add-on, where you could go to a KIOSK with an empty disk (that you could also buy there) and download a game to it.

HMm , the article states "The contents of the FC-ROM version "evil spirit castle Dracula" which appears behind are almost the same as that of the disk system version. " (translated with Excite).

Yes, due to its popularity (I guess) a year later a NES cartridge version was released too.
