Recommended by C't magazine and originally published in Germany, "The encyclopedia of Game Machines" is now translated into English. This book contains data about 450 machines made between 1972 - 2005. 600 pictures illustrate all this data. Looking at the hardware index at the site, you will notice that the MSX system is probably well presented (multiple brands and types are mentioned) over a number of pages. The book can be ordered online for $ 32.

The software list leaves much to be desired... No Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, SD-Snatcher, King's Valley, F-1 Spirit, A-1 Spirit...

to name a few (okay, Konami only) titles which weren't released on other platforms...

Hupps - apart from "King's Valley" and "A-1 Spirit" those games are mentioned (multiple times, some shown as screenshots) within this book :-)

Enjoy it!

Regarding Snatcher (con)versions:

Afaik the game was released in 1988 on MSX- and NEC-PC plattforms (PC-88, -98, on 5 floppy disks), converted to NEC PC-Engine CD in 1992, to Sega Mega CD in 1994 (only version that was translated and brought to western markets), to Playstation in 1996. There is also a version for Sharp X68000.

Afaik Konami put a special SCC5-Chip on the Sntacher MSX cart.

Winnie Forster
