With their popular game series like Aleste, Golvellius and Zanac, not to mention the great DiscStation series, Compile was one of those Japanese game publishers that had a special bond with the MSX computer. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt in 2003 and its copyrights were sold to various parties. Some of the copyrights now belong to D4 Enterprise - who are distributing these games in Project EGG, but the copyrights to Puyo Puyo went to SEGA.

Recently, SEGA announced they will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of this game. As part of this celebration, they are to release Puyo Puyo in the Virtual Console of the Nintendo Wii. As an additional feature, the game will support an online multiplayer mode. But as you might have guessed already, for the time being the game will be available in the Japan only.
