The newspost below is an April fools joke

We have just received an e-mail from Shigatsu Usoda, stating that a new, very interesting collectors item was released in Akihabara, Tokyo today: a Konami MSX antiques 25-in-1 joystick. Following Namco, Atari and Commodore, Konami has just put a small Joystick-shaped gamecomputer to market which contains the following MSX games:

  1. Antarctic adventure
  2. Athletic land
  3. Contra (Gryzor)
  4. F1 Spirit
  5. Ganbare Goemon (Samurai)
  6. Hinotori (Firebird)
  7. King's Valley
  8. King's Valley 2
  9. Knightmare
  10. Magical Tree
  11. Maze of Galious
  12. Nemesis
  13. Nemesis 2
  14. Nemesis 3
  15. Parodius
  16. Penguin Adventure
  17. Pippols
  18. Quarth
  19. Salamander
  20. Space Manbow
  21. Twinbee
  22. Usas
  23. Vampire Killer
  24. Yie Ar Kung Fu
  25. Yie Ar Kung Fu 2

The joystick can be connected directly to an NTSC television, runs on 4 ordinary AA batteries and can be obtained for 5600 Japanese Yen (about 42 euro) in Japanese shops (at least in Akihabara) as of today. It looks like the joystick contains a complete MSX computer provided in a single ASIC chip, with the ROM images of the games listed above built-in. This news quickly follows the re-release of classic Konami MSX games for Windows on i-revo. Admittedly, the Metal Gear and Snatcher games are left out of this impressive list, but given the fact that the patent on Snatcher was recently renewed, it certainly looks like the fresh co-operation between MSX Association, D4E and Konami is going to lead to more interesting products like these. Thanks go out to Shigatsu Usoda for sending in the news.

I haven't seen this joystick here in the US but there are several similar joysticks with a lot of retro games built in. I know there are at least two different joysticks with C64 games and several arcade once. I tried one that had Aleste (not the MSX version but looked almost the same) and it worked great. They are cheaper here in the US, around $30 iirc.
So although an MSX joystick is news to me, the concept has been around for over a year.

It's a joystick with 41 buttons (A-Z, 0-9, [space], [enter], [BS] and the 2 'normal' triggers Tongue

By the way, I've seen a Namco joystick like that in the Intertoys shop, it contains many MSX classics like Bosconian and Galaga, IIRC! Smile

Face it, this aprils fools was pretty obvious... Why the hell would Konami release such a device without Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake? Tongue
