Moonblaster song remake

In the early 90s, it was trendy to release musicdisks. Both FAC Soundtracker and Moonblaster were very popular trackers for the MSX-MUSIC and/or MSX-AUDIO soundchips. An example of such a musicdisk is Cybersound by Compjoetania.

The main musician of Compjoetania back then, Low_Profile, has made a remake of a moonblaster stereo song from Cybersound.

Another habit back then was the namegiving of songs. Many of you probably remember curious names such as BDD312, BDD453 or Theme3. In this tradition, the remade song is called 'Theme 6'. You can find it right here. Low_Profile also uploaded the original msx-song in mp3 format, because most people probably haven't heard that yet or won't remember it. You can download the original here.

This is a very good example of sleepy music, that was put to every other music disk at that time. I was never a big fan of this kind of MSX music, but it anyway gives nice retro feeling as it is so typical example of Dutch music that it can be. Maybe the limitations of MoonBlaster made people to make this kind of music so much...

I think Impact and especially BDD had a great impact on the Dutch MSX scene back then. Many people tried to copy their style and mellowed down even more. Low Profile has a somewhat different style, though. But just as mellow Smile Limitations of Moonblaster? Maybe. I AM convinced the tracker is responsible for the style of music in some way. This is something for a forum discussion Wink

Ben den Dulk rules!!! I absolutely adored his music back then, even though someone forced me to create 'music just like that' (which was not always appreciated by those Impact boys, IIRC Tongue). I love the synth-remake of the song as well, by the way... but can understand why some tend to fall asleep listening to these kind of tunes. For me, this is quite a nostalgia-boost Smile

Giving names sucks Smile

Unless you've something to hold on, like a game, movie or songtext, coming up with a name sucks Smile And in the end, when you finally found something, the title looks lame anyway Smile

Maybe the limitations of MoonBlaster made people to make this kind of music so much...

that's 100% true .. the difference between a 16-rows tune and a 64-rows tune is evident..

A typical MB song usually looks like:

[edit pattern 1]
[copy pattern 1 to 2]
[change a few notes in pattern 2]
[copy pattern 1&2 to 3&4[
[change a few notes in pattern 3&4]

etc.

Or another obvious one..: when you use multiple channels to 'spread out' an instrument (like a piano) then this 'pattern' is prolly copied as well, meaning that the pattern stays the same in terns of rythm ..

ahwell, the composers will know what I mean ^^;

Hm, about the musictrackers being responsible for the kind of music that is being composed. Those ANMA dudes used their own tracker and indeed, they had pretty different styles. Same goes for MSX ENGINE. They used STUDIO FM. And what about Microcabin. Probably also had their unique (probably MML) composing software. It's interesting!! And Moonblaster was obviously based on Soundtracker, as far as it concerns the sounds and soundoptions.

I could listen to this kind of music for hours.....keep on making it Bart! And about soundtracker and moonblaster, ofcourse there are limitations, but you can make several kind of musics with it, it's the COMPOSER who makes the song..(if it's not ripped) ;-)

Hmmm, nice tune (the remake), and in the typical Bart style Wink Staying true to the original, I can imagine a scrolltext around it easily Smile Only the guitar could be a better tho (try using some lower velocities in the breaks!)...

All these remakes of wellknown MSX composers actually make me wanna rearrange some of my own crap or an existing MSX song as well...

Yeah well, this one's made 100% in Reason, and I'm not too familiar with all the acoustic sounds yet Smile I personally like the acoustic guitars from my XV better, but i hate using two different sequencers for one song Smile
