BITcom software for RS232 data transfer

BITcom software for RS232 data transfer

While creating a HBI232-MKII RS232 interface, Eric Boez and Eugeny Brychkov have developed a software to easily transfer files and data from a PC to an MSX with the RS232. This software is called BITcom. With BITcom you can:

  • Send pictures to the MSX screen
  • Send ROM or BIN files to the MSX memory
  • Send BASIC files
  • Send files to MSX Drives
  • Create script files on the fly
  • Upload files from the PC to the MSX

The software at least works with the Sony RS232 interfaces, but probably also with Spectravideo RS232 and possibly some others as well.

Im testing this software using another RS232-interface (Sanyo MRS001) and its atleast partly working for me Smile
I'll have to find a new PSU for the VSCom 8 port serial basterd -usb that I have connected to a laptop here, and also rule out some other stuff that might be interfering, but win-software doesnt seem to like win8 much.. cough, cough, linux version?

ericb. Well, yesterday I was able to use the function "SEND BASIC" from Win8 to MSX, but only that function. 2400/8N1 and 9600/8N1. The software crashed/hung after failing to send file(s) and most other stuff I tried.

But tonight, nothing works. And that is after checking cable and the PSU for the VSCOM 8port, using same COMINI-string etc.. I'll try to investigate further.

Jipe: I have taken a few pictures of front and back of the PCB, they are maybe too large for posting here so you give me a email-adress to send them to, please Smile

I've updated BitCOM to V06d, pleae download the lastest version.
Perhaps it woks better with windows8.
As I have no Windows8 available here, I cannot test it on this OS. Sorry.
But It must not crash...

Also, I'm not sure this sofware may works with your serial nterface if it doesn't use the same ports as the sony interfaces.

Using Sanyo RS232 I was able to transfer files from floppy B: (internal 3.5") to a virtual machine running Vista.
The rest of my drives are on MSX setup in MegaflashROM scc/sd, and both BitCom and also the MSX seem to freeze when trying to use the mfr scc/sd.. I will investigate further.
