Four years after the release of the original Bombaman game for MSX, Team Bomba has decided to declare this game freeware! To celebrate this special event a special release of the game was created. This special edition is called Bombaman Extra Ammo and contains a new world with its own story and boss, all unlockables of the original game are available and some minor issues were fixed.

To make the game more accessible a special PC version was created together with the BlueMSX emulator developers. Windows users can download this special version and enjoy the game will all settings maxed out. So now the game is available in a PC, MSX and emulator version. All versions include the game, the manual and some extra maps.

Bombaman is a game based on Hudson Soft's Bomberman series. Bombaman was originally developed for the MSX2 home computer system and released in 2004. Apart from the typical Bomberman style gameplay the game introduces some new elements like an immersive single player mode with a big and sinister storyline, a 4 player multiplayer mode (unique on MSX), nasty boss monsters and a level editor with which you can create your own levels.

This new edition of Bombaman Extra Ammo, the soundtrack and the editor, can all be downloaded from the Team Bomba website. Have fun playing this timeless guilty pleasure!

Since it is now declared freeware, I think I'm permitted to ask this question:
Did the original (which I bought when it was released! ) include any diskprotection?
Or in other words, can I create correctly working dsk images of it, or does the
game detect that it is a copy?

No, the original game didn't include any form of copy protection, so you can create diskimages of the original disks. But, you don't need to, because the diskimages are also on the CD.

Keep in mind that you will miss some patches and translations if you use the original release disks or disk images.

Bombaman is the game with the best Moonsound musics ever. I enjoyed this game a lot in its time, maybe now it is a good opportunity to play it again. Smile

Not only the only game I have in mind when I want to use the Moonsound, also Music Module music it's outstanding. I used Bombaman last year during the first "Retromañia" to show people the differences between FMPAC - MUSIC MODULE and finally, Moonsound.

LOL... From the did-you-know department: did you know that all fm-pac/musmod songs were downconverted from the Moonsound songs? And that on average I only spent 5 minutes on each? Still, I appreciate it a lot that people like the music!

Another did you know: A lot of moonsound music was downgraded because we could "only" use 18 channels or so (because of the panned soundeffects). Most of my music was first written with all 24 wavechannels and afterwards I had to delete 6 channels or Arjan would kick me. It still hurts a little...

And yet another did you know: On youtube there is a nice intro animation that was meant for the PC version of the game. The animation was too big so we cancelled it, but if you type the words "Bombaman intro" in youtube...

Bombaman - Extra Ammo? Perhaps you've better named it Bombaman - Pink edition.

The whites are all pink-ish if I run the PC version on my Laptop.oOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Huey: It appears that if the colordepth is set 16 bits, some of the scalers (controlled by the TV knob) don't work correctly. The default setting, which is the leftmost one, should work fine though (at least, on my machine). You can try fiddling with the TV knob or set the colordepth to 32bits (if your laptop supports it).

Ropiesoft - I'm going to inform your boss that you visit MSX sites during your work.

That aside - this actually is a great release.
