Dodgin' Raven

In 2008, when pitpan and viejo_archivero still cooperated as Karoshi, they intended to release a game called Dodgin' Raven. It didn't make MSXdev'08 however, due to a last-minute bug; it didn't work with 60Hz, and development halted after that moment. However, it's now released 'as is'.

While it has only three levels, the production values are exactly like you can expect from former Karoshi. In this game you control a raven, trying hard to avoid bumping into rock-hard clouds - what a concept! A small game of only 24KB, but give it a try and fly!

Hahaha!

What a game! I coded it from scratch in less than two weeks and I didn't check the cycle count, so it does work at 60Hz but no enemies appear oO

Hope that you like the simple concept. Maybe I'll finish it someday Wink

Looks cute, and has nice gameplay considering its limited design.
Schedule some free time and finish it pitpan. =)

I liked it. Smile But it may need some twists to keep interest on when playing later stages. Smile (after you make later stages firstWink)

Nice colours!! Smile

Hahaha!

Manuel: you're right, the font at the ending should ring some bells! The whole ending was itself a joke not intended to remain in the final version. But as I decided to publish it as-is, you can all enjoy Edgar Allan Poe's acclaimed The Raven in the amazing 6x8 openmsx font scroller Wink

Very little chances of finish it, though.

It's the C-BIOS font, to be exact, designed by Eric Boon.

Seriously speaking, you should adhere to the license:

; Font data for C-BIOS. Font designed by Eric Boon.

Unless I missed it, there was no copyright statement shown.

There was nothing at all, just a plain ROM file Sad

I'll ask MSXDEV team to remove the ROM file from their website. I do apologize for not taking into account the fact of the licence.

I can't believe this is actually going to happen, just over a font. Do we really care? I draw complete fonts in 5..10 minutes, and I rarely do stuff with it.

pitpan: not necessary, just include the license with it and it's fine Smile

Better let AuroraMSX make that decision/request, not you.
And maybe he can make a friendly exception?

Nevermind. It's not a problem for me. I've already asked the MSXDEV TEAM to kindly remove the ROM.

Thank you for pointing out the licence violation. I really don't care about it but I don't want MSXDEV page to break any licence agreement.

And please do not overreact to this: licence happens Wink

I just pointed to the license. It's AuroraMSX who owns the copyright. As hap also rightfully mentioned.

So, don't blame me Tongue

*hum*

In short, Manuel and hap are right, but I don't care. I'm happy someone liked my font enough to include it in his game and that's it.

So, for this one single occasion, allow me to change the license into a "beer-license": pitpan, if ever you are in my vicinity, buy me a beer. Hannibal

Now, put that ROM back online and go Running Naked in a Field of Flowers y'all, will ya? Tongue

Does that licence say anything about that copyright owner has right to change the licence any way he wants at any moment without any warning and everybody must obey what new licence text may say then? If not, then auroramsx has not the right to claim free beer! Wink

AuroraMSX has the copyright of the font, so he can do whatever he likes with it.

If pitpan had met the conditions for free distribution of the font quoted above, then AuroraMSX would indeed have no right to demand a beer from him.
Since pitpan has not, AuroraMSX is quite free to offer an ad-hoc license with whatever terms he likes.
While I don't expect pitpan or AuroraMSX to sue anyone, it seems to me that Vampier is redistributing the game without the permission from pitpan. The beer-license from AuroraMSX was not offered to Vampier, but I would say Vampier now owes AuroraMSX a beer for redistributing the font as part of the game.
I would agree that it would be best to go Running Naked in a Field of Flowers, if it were nice and warm outside.

Foolishness aside, pitpan, forget about the drama-ing, put some "zand erover", as the Dutch say it. AuroraMSX is a-ok with you using C-BIOS font, please allow the MSXdev site to distribute Dodgin' Raven. Smile
