A hot study into tranquility

Perhaps it was the hot and moist weather in the Netherlands or the fact that some of the crew were spending a bit more time on their study. Perhaps it was the holiday to Easter Island of some of the crew, to shoot the rings that emerge from those odd statues, or perhaps your crew was digging out an underground bunker to prepare for the 2012 event. In any case, we'll have to make up for a week of silence! So, what happened while we were away?

New entries for the retroCRAP competition were submitted. The beauties are:

  • Marial Attack (Muffie) - Guide the virgin Mary to heaven while avoiding forks thrown by the devil
  • Mikhael Jackson Apple Catcher (Vampier) - Move the character left or right in order to catch apples falling from a tree
  • One Line Tetris (Vampier) - Tetris with only one column. What more can be said about it? If you loose then you will obviously win this competition!
  • The Adventure (Lionel Ritchie & Muffie) - A traditional English text adventure

Also, new entries for MSXart Unlimited have seen the light of the day:

  • Roadfighter (Aleste) - A hot red car surrounded by hot pink skin, as it should be..
  • MSX Spacestation (yum) - The MSX logo, featuring sci-fi textures

There are fixes for the two entries of the first edition of the Passion MSX 2 contest:

  • Shift 1.1 (Infinite) - A tiny fix that cures a nasty bug caused by the weight object
  • Equivocal 1.5 (TNI) - An annoying bug has been fixed, and the graphics and gameplay have been improved as well

The Marco Polo of the MSX scene, only_69, has sharpened his knife and oiled his muscles, to provide his MSX Solutions website with yet another map: Super Rambo Special, the 1986 adventure game by Pack-In-Video.

You will not know what "hot and moist weather" is until you visit the south of Spain in august. Altough Japan is also a good candidate. Smile

A whole week of silence?
Oh, my God.
It is the end of the world, but it was scheduled for 2012, what happened?

Just kidding, folks.
If you're concerned about "a week of silence", what can I say about 2 years of inertia (that's what happens to the brazilian/portuguese interface of MRC)?
I submitted my information twice to help translating and updating, but still got no response.

The translation of newsposts will be solved with the release of MRC2k9 (and yes, we hope it'll be "2k9" Smile ). Don't worry, in time you can translate news 'till you drop!

I'm just eager to help with the brazilian interface. Tongue

Thanks, anyway.

I´m still stuck at "John Clark". Only options are to kill the crazy prisoner, climb the window with a rope or exit the prison. All them lead to immediate death. Tongue

I used a wrong command. It works fine. I tried GIVE FAMILY RING instead of GIVE RING. But I get stucked in the same way after that. Tongue

Well, it all depends, if you like 100% text-based adventures, like the ones our grandfathers used to play on mainframe terminals, this shouldn't be considered a crap game. AFAIK, it have a good story and a nice engine. BUT, at least for me, I just can't play text adventures for more than 2 minutes. The only text-based games that I like, are those strategy ones, like: Santa Paravia, which was called "Duelo dos Reinos" or "Bologna & Milano" in Brazil.

Some friend of mine wrote this small text about it: http://www.geocities.com/hbarcellos/duelo.html

here's a good online version of it: http://paravia.dornbeast.com/

I also think its a pretty good game, I didn't get far either but it looks like a pretty nice engine. Its certainly not crap underneath the surface.

Don't get me wrong. When I say it's a crap game, I'm just being ironic.
It's just like Michael Jackson, when he said he was "bad" meaning "good"...

I am an atheist, so such a powerful religious game doesn´t suit me. But I like the highly atmospheric descriptions of John Clark. Wink

BTW, I am stuck again. What should I do after giving the ring, since any action means instant death?

[EDIT] Just finished the game. Too short, but the next part sounds promising.

have you tried examining the wall and pulling the brick, like in the spanish classic JABATO?
there is no sequel Big smile we did the game in 1990 and never did any other adventure after that.
but if you want a really REALLY crap adventure, try golden flower, it's impossible, ilogical and supremely crap:
