Nestor Soriano released a new version of InterNestor Lite, his toolkit which allows you to connect your MSX running MSX-DOS to the internet. Furthermore, InterNestor lite allows you to code your own internet applications. New in this version:

  • Reduced the size of the TCP segments to avoid the Fossil driver to lose data
  • The control program INL.COM now supports configuration files
  • Added Van Jacobson compression. This compression reduces the size of the TCP/IP headers, originally 40 bytes long, down to an average size of 5 bytes
  • Minor bugfixes

You can get the new InterNestor Lite at Konamiman's MSX Page.

The achievement of connecting MSX to the internet is commendable! I have a question, apart from Nestor, does anyone actually use there MSX to access the internet instead of a PC ?

Hey, hey, I do not use "MSX instead of PC", I use both... (^^!)
Mainly because having just a bare telnet client available is quite a problem... and I don't feel capable (both in terms of skill and in terms of available time) of also programing the mail client, the web browser, and the like. :-)

It would be nice to see some games use the Internet for multiplayer modes though. I doubt there's much use in a browser, although having one is always cool Tongue It's a tough nut to crack for an MSX though. Even fudebrowser, which relies on a WILD server, doesn't really ace it. But then again, I guess an MSX really isn't suitable for web-surfing. Perhaps Mr. Nishi will give us an MSX capable of running Flash animations Wink
