About two months ago the second demo version of MNBIOS, a new operating system for MSX, was released. Flyguille, the developer of MNBIOS is now working on a third demo version, which will be released somewhere in september. If all goes well this will be the last demo-release before the final release of the OS.
In the upcoming demo release the full command-set (which consists out of 60 commands) of the shell will be completed and fully functional. This includes the implementation of math routines as well. When this has been done the third demo version of MNBIOS will be released, after which flyguille will start working on the final version of MNBIOS, which will contain a fully rewritten kernel.
Here's a list of the features planned for the final release:
- Fully multitasking with ordinary coding techniques
- Support for Multisession applications
- Support for up to 256 drivers and/or libraries
- Support for Object Oriented libraries
- All resources of the kernel will be used as objects
- Each window van have its own font type
- Support for 8x16 and 16x16 character sizes, with japanese/russian characters.
- The kernel will handle the diference between a full-screen aplication and windowed aplication
- Each process will has its own data segment, which means that the HIMEM structure is from $C400 up to $FDFF. This memory can be used for applications and OS communication data
You can try MNBIOS yourself by downloading the most recent demo in English or Spanish.
