Some Konami games show differences between Japanese and European MSX computers. To improve the true gaming experience, MSX fan Gradius2 has made six IPS patches to force 60Hz mode and English language for the following Konami games:

  • Akumajyo Drakyula - Vampire Killer (1986)
  • Gofer no Yabou Episode 2 (1988)
  • Gradius 2 (1987)
  • Penguin Adventure (1986)
  • Salamander (1987)
  • Usas (1987)

Great work! How does your Vampire Killer patch compare to This one? http://www.msx.org/news/software/en/frs-enhancement-patch-va...
Does it offer any of the cool features of that one?

I see, is somehow close to "nice" lol.

@Rataplan: I did a change on $2B (or 0x2B) checks in the game, FRS didn't changed those.

For Vampire Killer, just change 0x0D9E to 3E 21, do the same for 0x1A09 after FRS's patches then you'll have them all.

You can also simply apply this IPS, then FRS, or vice-versa (same result).

Forgot to mention, a LOT Konami games are english only, there is no J (japanese) language at all there, so is wrong to label them as "JE".

Few them are pure japanese, and almost all were translated to english, with exception (AFAIK):
- Mah Jong
- Synthesizer
- Pennant Race 1
- Majutsushi
- Quarth

The list here is:
http://bifi.msxnet.org/msxnet/konami/konami.txt

Another wrong example is Badlands, marked as J, while the game is in pure english.

Maybe it means "released for Japanese market"? (And European market when it's E.)

Yes, but that is wrong, I tested japanese releases and they have both languages on it (J and English).

Many came from arcade or inspired games to arcade too. Since arcade business was global, they needed to put english there as well, and of course, they did.

They are English only, but appeared in both an English/European and a Japanese box/manual. So, they had 2 different releases (but the same code), one for the European and one for the Japanese market.

So the only change would be the package and manual.
