This is one of those MSX games in development that promises to be a real treat. Can't wait till it's finished Smile
It's a good step they moved to MSX2, I get fed up with all these MSX1 titles. Maybe the gfx could take a bit more advantage of the MSX2 tho...
Also the music preview was good, I'm curious what they will sound like in the proper context (in the game)!

How are the sound effects done btw, PSG only? Or on a PSG/SCC hybrid, like the music?

Well, you're sorta right: actually, all footage you see is taken from MSX1 versions, except for the intro screen and the still of the forest (the one showing the snake, bats and whip).

This music still uses our old system; PSG is merely enhanced by the SCC. The final arrangements are supposed to have 5 independent SCC channels instead of having it simply mimic the PSG (except for the noise ofcourse) with a custom wavetable.

Most sound effects are PSG only, but SCC will be used to play some samples as well (monkeys, elephants, rumbling, demonic laughter...)

Sounds very promising, I'm getting curious now! Any plans to release a new preview (video) soon(ish)?

I won't ask when the game will be finished. Bombaman took us 5 years because we needed and wanted that time, I'd rather have a well-done game than a hurried release just to be done with it.

Sure. As soon as there's some relevant progression with the MSX2 version, I'll make a new vid, containing actual gameplay only.

Oh, remark about the sounds: please work some more on the PSG drums Smile They are currently behind in quality with the rest of the music and could use some polishing. Why not just rip Konami's drums and take that as a starting point?

Yeah, those drums could use some improvement. These songs were actually my first (serious) works on PSG and along the lines I learned to do it just a bit better (which will show in the Core Crisis soundtrack).
How can I rip PSG sounds from Konami's?

Hi, We're not actively developing at the moment.

We are coding indirectly for MOAM at the moment on the music (TriloTracker) and on the enemy engine (DARC).
It is not cancelled.

i love the ideas of using lava as a sort of timer
also dynamic light is lovely (and actually is something i started to work on after the DDA development)
Actually this game would fit well on msx....

Yes, it looks perfectly doable on MSX1, screen 2, max 2 sprites per line for main char. It would be great if he/they(Studio Pina) made it for MSX. I wouldn't be eager to port it over myself though, there's much cooler stuff out there to remake, like Volcabamba, ...or VVVVVV Big smile

Just out of curiosity, are there any updates to this project? I have La Mulana fever right now and seeing the screenshots of this game and hearing John's music so far has me pretty psyched for this release. : )

No updates since September 2011, sorry. Moving the project to msx2 has revealed much more frustrating than expected.
Once Huey will have finished the TT project, maybe we could reconsider the Moam project, but not very soon.

and redo from scratch a lot of code
IIRC there were problems owing to the new interrupt management to allow screen split : on the msx1, frame drop was allowed and not noticeable. On msx2 frame drop would affect screen split corrupting the scorebar.
