sd_snatcher has just announced that, with the help of people in this forum thread, Psycho World HD/multi-language is now finished! Features are:

  • Ported to hard disk. It now runs as a normal MSX-DOS1&2 application. No more disk emulation is needed
  • Fixed the bug that froze the game at the end of the 1st stage, requiring the player to remove the disk from the drive and insert it again after an error screen was shown
  • Translated the menus and cut-scenes (aka "visuals" ), with multi-language support. To select the language, just type SETLANG at the DOS prompt (MSX-DOS2 only)
  • Changed the keys to SPACE and GRAPH (instead of SHIFT and SPACE), for easier keyboard play. This will also allow you to use autofire on machines that have this feature.

Also, included in the package is a document that explains how to create a language pack for the game. The included PSYCHO.TXT file includes a few handy tips. Have fun playing one of the best platformers on MSX!

I get:

The requested URL /files/PSYCHOHD.ZIP was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Anyone else?

Data: 6/6/2008 10:48pm

I get timeout error when booting with the IDE SUNRISE controller
and I cannot use the HD image in no way (I tested all teh IDE and scsi configurations)

Is ist a bug or mine is a bad installation?

sd_snatcher: I don't really understand how this works, but before being able to see the cutscenes for which I gave you the translation, I would have to play the game quite a while anyway - could you post some screen shots of the English version in the forumthread?

I'm not sure why, but the image works on openMSX and seems not to work on BlueMSX.

How did you create the image?

How did you create the image?

I created the image on openMSX using diskmanipulator, then copied the files to it.

The reason why the disk doesn't work in bluemsx is that it is too small. Not sure what the smallest possible size is but a 5MB disk works fine.

The reason for the failure is that the emulator has a generic disk handling routine and size is one factor to decide what type of disk it is, and I believe sizes under 1.44MB (or perhaps under 2.88MB) are treated as floppy disks and have separate handling than IDE and SCSI disks.

We created a 5MB Psycho World HD disk that works fine so I can say for sure 5MB disks work, and since you did a working 3MB disk, I'd say any disk bigger than 3MB is treated as an HD disk.

If sd_snatcher approve, I can post a link to the image we created. We actually created a 3MB version after your response sunrise.

Please could you add bluemsx compatible version of the game?
without, you would exclude 50% of the emulator users Crying

Well, I can expand the image to 3MB to workaround the problem, but shoudn't BlueMSX developers try fix it? Afterall, if there aren't any MSX floppy images bigger than 720KB, why is its disk-handler routine considering a 1MB diskimage as a floppy instead of an IDE image?

I've tried the HD image from passion msx on bluemsx. It works (the image is 3MB) but it has no audio, only psg !!
This both emulating TR and msx2 + FM pac.
What is wrong ?

I just played it in latest blueMSX on a Panasonic FS-A1GT machine and it has FMPAC. Do you have the FM music turned off in the properties maybe?

Um, according to BiFi's analysis of the game program, this is the copy protection kicking in, not a bug Smile (And I verified it in a practical way: using a proper dump of the game, it doesn't freeze anymore!)

I can confirm it's a copy protection. In 2011, Django has removed this copy protection. Unprotected versions in different languages are available on MSX blue. An hard disk version is no more required to 'fix' that !

And I can reveal that openMSX can now run the copy-protected original disk Smile
