We have just added rMSX 1.3 to our ever growing freeware database. This program, by NYYRIKKI, is the next generation of the former MSX1EMU. It's now possible to enjoy all the MSX2 goodies, directly from your harddrive! Other changes include the license, which has changed from freeware to shareware. You can either visit the upcoming MSX Info Update 2009 party or send five euro to NYYRIKKI, the former option is of course the most fun! Other new elements in this version:

  • MSX2 support added to loading routine
  • I/O sounds are now disabled by default
  • New commandline parameters: MSX1 (default), MSX2, IOSOUND, NOMENU
  • Shortcut key to change between 50/60Hz added
  • MSX2 related changes in HZ, PALLETTE and EXIT commands
  • Partial MSX-Music support (without ROMs)
  • Keyboard online menu has been rewritten = Much better compatibility with games
  • New command LICENSE & shareware note added
  • Fixed: disk LED support works even when IOSOUND is off.
  • Fixed: a bug that caused delay on CALL command handling.
  • Fixed: a bug that caused _SYSTEM not to work

I've tested this with ROMs delivered with BlueMSX. At least Toshiba ROMs are known not to work because they lack support for expanded slot 0.

@hap Save states are not likely to appear in next few releases.

Nyyrikki make savestates happen and i will buy 10 licences of this emulator LOL!
Remember the symbos thread where i requested an aditional feature for the rom loader? Some patching that would allow rom games to exit back to symbos?
Anyway congratulations for this new tool it is amazing !Smile

It still does not work when InterNestor is installed. I know that you asked me to test this when you released MSXEMU 1.2, sorry for not replying you before. Anyway this does not seem a big issue (who uses INL besides of freaks like me?) Tongue

BTW, what a scary nag screen. I tought that my computer was going to explode or something. Will it throw radiative rays to me if I try to crack it? LOL!

Unfortunately radiation was not an option... I know, that I can not make this fool proof for cracking, but I was hoping, that 5€ for good purpose would be small enough fee instead of figting with nasty protections and risking your data... How ever there is still no registered copies sold, so this might not be the case. Smile2

@Jipe. Yes, I agree... ie AZERTY keyboard just does not feel right on MSX tR Eek! Unfortunately I can't change the V9958 to TMS chip by software. How ever I think that 99% of the software runs fine with V9958 as well...

I tried to use the MSX1 ROM that I had used with the older versions but the games that worked before no longer work (games don't load, corrupt graphics etc.)

Also, for the MSX2 emulation, I'm a bit confused about the MSX2SUB.ROM, what ROM should this be?

If anyone can tell me the names of suitable ROMS for both MSX1 and 2 (maybe those used by blueMSX), that would be much appreciated. I'll definitely pay the 5 euro if I can get it all working.

I've made some changes in code, so if you can give some game names, that worked before I'll test and fix the issues...

Actually no need to: Register corruption caused for example Time Scanner not to work.
I found the bug already and I've sent a fixed version to registered users...

Others need to wait for next official release...

@MagicKnight MSX2SUB.ROM is an image of "MSX2 SUB-ROM" a 16KB ROM that starts with "CD" header and contains MSX2 extensions of BASIC commands, V9938 & RTC support etc. On some emulators this is also called MSX2EXT.ROM

The MSX system ROMs that are bundled with blueMSX ("Shared ROMs" folder) seem to work fine. For MSX2, either MSX2.ROM+MSX2EXT.ROM or MSX2J.ROM+MSX2JEXT.ROM are appropriate. The japanese ROMs have the added advantage of booting in 60Hz mode.
