Software house Oniric Factor does a little of everything. They make games for Windows, browsers, mobile platforms and micro computers like MSX. Today Oniric has announced its new MSX game called The Awakening. Pre-orders for a physical version are now available.

Oniric Factor has made MSX games like Dribol (2015) for example. Although you can download the most for free, a few of them are also available in physical format. And with the coming release of The Awakening, Oniric Factor has another MSX2 title to be proud of.

You control the "Big Bad Wolf" Soldier in this new adventure, pulverizing mutants with a shotgun and exploring the huge map of more than 200 screens. Pay attention to the alarms of the Geiger counter and move fast, most areas are toxic due to radiation. Your mission is to find the precise terminals to activate the "Icarus protocol".

Not much information about the game itself has been released, time will tell. Keep a keen eye on our forum in this case. What we do know that it is an MSX2 game that requires 128K RAM and MSX-Music (like FM-PAC). The game will be released as a 2Mb cartridge including artwork and a manual. For 33,- euros, ex shipping, you can be the owner of another modern MSX2 game. For details about pre-ordering this jewel, check the web-page about The Awakening.

Indeed,
the color palette is very well made, I like the FOX hero idea…
Looking forward to see how is it will evolve from a gameplay perspective.
I'm also impressed by the work done Smile

Any information on if this will run on an FS-A1WX with 64kb RAM if I use a memory mapper cartridge in the other slot? I have a Musical Memory Mapper, and it works for some 128kb RAM games like Pumpkin Adventure 3, Bombaman, and Akin, but doesn't work with others like Pumpkin Adventure 2, Duck Tales, The Witch's Revenge, and Morning Star.

If it can be confirmed that I'll be able to run the game on my system with a memory mapper cartridge, I'll probably order a copy. But if I can't play it, it would be kind of a waste to do so, so I'd love it if someone could confirm this in advance.

Thanks!

-Tom

I spent the weekend in Seville and had the chance to meet Jorge from Oniric and get my cartridge. I enjoyed listening to some of the stories of the game. The only thing I regret is not having brought my computer during the weekend! Congratulations for the game!

I received it last week, played it on stream last week. But noticed a couple of things.
While running this on a Philips NMS8245 MSX2.

- Boot loader, first keypress on Hz switch, did switch Screen, but not change text. 2nd keypress and on, changed Hz of screen and text.
- Also an annoying Pause icon hovering in left top corner over the text, which happens, on Credits screen, story before gameplay and both endings of the game.
- regarding the credits screen, going there, back to menu, then back to credits screen. you see the credits, but if you watch closely, you see on init some rendering happening behind the text, not well-polished.
- last but not least, fortunately, I played this game on a Television instead of a monitor, since the Mini Map was more a Micro Map, also showing on screen for only 5 seconds.

Game it self I had fun playing it, music was fine, enjoyed the game and finished the normal version and the 2nd mode ( revealed in the first ending ), just very unfortunate it wasn't properly tested / bugfixed for real machines.

Unpacking and full gameplay ( didn't take too long Big smile ) can be seen on https://www.twitch.tv/videos/498965321

Hello Hydragon, thanks for your feedback. I will consider your observations. Thank God these are minor glitches.

This is a really peculiar glitch. I have an MSX 2 NMS8245 and It does not happen to me, but i have seen this kind of glitches in some sub versions of the computer. Look to the plate under It and tell me wich number is written after "Type NMS8245 / ". I know that the ones with number 16 can show small sprite glitches in some games. Some developers like me, are gathering information about it, so if you can tell me wich number is written in your plate, perhaps i will be able yo buy an affected sub version to make more tests.

Anyway, as far as i know, It could be solved disabling the Sprites during the cutscenes.

On the other side, about testing the game on real machines: It has been tested... a lot indeed, but It is not possible to test it in all the compatible machines. I only can tell you that i have test it in a lot of them, but there are a lot MSX models and subversions.

Perhaps ypu could help us to test our next games. We have a Whatsapp group for testers, mainly on spanish language, but we can speak some english too.

Type NMS8245/00, also checked 2 other 8245's I have also both the /00 versions.
Both tested, also same result. On the NMS8220 it's gone, got also an 8230 and 8250 around to check.
and sure thing about the testing, you can send an email to info@cheatmsx.com with further information about the group and such. Thanks for the reply
