Ok let me rephrase that.
You used an emulator to prove that it works on a Toshiba HX10. It's well known that the MSX VDP can't keep up with the Z80 (have to insert nops between outs). Converted games have the chance to overflow vblank and write to the VDP too fast, considering the original platform doesn't have Z80 waitstates, and soundchip emulation adds a couple of cycles per frame too. The majority of edge-case glitches resulting from this will not show up on an emulator.

Did you test your games before the carts went into production? On a couple of real MSX1 computers of course. If not, see my smileys above.

I tested on my turbo-R all games - and a couple of friends tested on their machines. Also the games are tested by Matra on his machines.

Well, for one thing, please use a more recent version of openMSX... the one you are using is from Tue Nov 25 19:26:40 2008. In other words: ancient (we are now on revision 11930).

A recent developer build will have a script in which you can test the VDP timing.

And of course, never release software without having it tested on a couple of real MSX1 machines, see hap's story. (No idea which machines are used by Matra.)
I have a real HX-10 myself (a couple of them), on which I could try it. Let me know if I can help.

Well I remember that MATRA tested our cartridge thoroughly as it came back several times with timing issues before they decided to release it. So IIRC Matra does check on real HW.

As I said, ask someone to burn my roms on your carts. As far as I remember, they only need 32kb anyway.
Btw, do I need to convert roc'n rope myself?
Btw2: nice job slotman... Selling untested stuff. Release the pascal code, so someone can help you with debugging...

Slotman, I have sent email to you early on this evening, it has a screenshot of that garbage title screen of Montezuma´s Revenge. Please tell me if you got it, as my email went "crazy" when sending it. After several tries, it seems I cannot even login to my email anymore on this evening.

About 64K, can you please explain me why your game need such amount of RAM, as it is a CARTRIDGE game? I am not a coding guru, so there must be some (il)logical reason I can´t understand without explanation.

About testing on hardware (instead of emulators), supersoniqs bought quite a many MSX-1 computers to test their developed hardware on real things. I don´t blame slotman because of that, just wanted to note. But maybe you should buy some more cheap secondhand MSX-1s? Smile

Anyway, my Toshiba HX-10 cannot run Jungle Hunt cartridge. That´s it. Eek!

@Huey: indeed, at Matra they do hardware tests, they even found some troubles for me at some games preproduction stage ;-). But that's not Matra's task imho, but developers' responsability, to test their games before sending them to production.

For me, I just tested Roc'n Rope, Monctezuma's Revenge and Jungle Hunt cartridges on MSX2, so I can't tell. I will try to test them on my HB10P.

@MäSäXi: I've received your email. It's really strange that the image looks like that... If it appears normally first, and later it becomes like that, it isn't timing problem... I'll look further into it.

As for Jungle Hunt - my primary goal when testing it on openMSX would be to test for RAM slots compatibility - since it boots on OpenMSX, but freezes on your computer - I have no idea what's going on...

I think the problem with Roc'n Rope was miscommunication, plain and simple. I was very busy doing a budget for a game when Matra told be about a bug in the game, so I sent him another version to test. I'm guessing he used that version to make the carts, so hence the problems.

As for Montezuma and Jungle Hunt, I tested on my turbo-R, and friends tested them on Hot-Bit (MSX1) and on MSX2 machines. Also, I haven't received a single complaint from the brazilian batch of Jungle Hunt. Apart from that, I also tested the game on openMSX (several machines) and BlueMSX (MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+ and turbo-R) without problems.

The reason I need all that RAM is the hole game is compressed to fit a 32k ROM - that was the size available on the Brazilian batch - so all carts content are extracted to RAM before running.
