In my experience, do not forget about Java. If the JVM is good (I only have experience with hotspot), it is very performant. (Check out some comparisons online.)

And if you're used to C or C++, Java is a warm bath to get into, regarding how easy and comfy it is to program in.

Just updated fMSX-Android to 3.5.5. Changes:
1. System ROMs can now be stored in /sdcard/fMSX
2. Made virtual keyboard transparent.
3. Added on-screen modal buttons (SHIFT/CTRL/ALT).
4. Fixed audio.

Now it worked...! but still, some problems:

It's very hard to choose the correct options on the menu - to load a new ROM file after the emulation started was really difficult - most of the time I touched on "load file", and the dialog just disappears. The few times I could get on the files list, I couldn't even scroll the list down - just by touching the display, the file list went away!

Also, playing Galaga - if I touched the "left button area", plus the "A" area, the ship actually moved to the right, shooting...

On Alcazar, I put the virtual keyboard on screen - had to press F5 to start the game, but pressing it on the virtual keyboard did nothing.

Press the Android "back" button, then select a new file from the Android-specific file dialog. If you really want to use the built-in emulator menu, and your screen lacks the touch precision, use the on-screen joypad area to navigate: it should still work in the menu.

I enabled the virtual F-buttons and made sure the on-screen joypad does control the built-in menu. These changes are coming with the next package update.

thank you for converting FMSX to Android 2.2! Just played Pinguin Adventure on my Motorola Milestone, the emulation works quite good and I'm glad to see the keyboard is also supported!

Just uploaded the new version to the Market:
* Now saves screenshots and shows them when selecting a file.
* Virtual keyboard looks cleaner now, and all the special keys should work.
* On-screen joystick now fully usable inside builtin menus.
* Fixed display and audio settings that sometimes were ignored on startup.

@fms: Thank you for this great app. I run it on my 2.3 Android Desire HD and it will cost me a lot of hours coming holiday!

I managed to make it run on my Samsung Galaxy SII, but soon as I touch the screen. or go to settings to change a setting it crashes.
Only method to shut down fMSX, is to remove the battery.

edit: files are in root of sd-card

@Hydragon: My stats show a few dozen active users with Galaxies SII, so it should work. No idea why it crashes on you, but if you could provide logcat output (taken with DDMS or ADB), it would be helpful.
