The emulator does not show up in the Android Market when using a cheap tablet I recently bought. It's an "unknown" Android device running Gingerbread, with a resolution of 800x600.
Is there a reason for this device not being supported (e.g. the non-standard resolution), or is it just a matter of a setting in the Android manifest file?
Samor,
If you won't fool Android Market to think your tablet is actually another known device (by running "Market Enabler" or manually editing the build.prop file on your device), you won't be able to download thousands of good applications, including fMSX. With or without fMSX you'd better to enable Market on your device.
As for manifest file, fms already said he believes this setting gives him better protection... though I believe letting the free version of fMSX be downloadable for any "not Market-enabled" devices could be a better choice.
Thanks, I'll consider asjusting the device.
When I published an app on the market, I got a few reports of it now showing up. Turned out it was a matter of devices having non-standard resolutions. I since updated the app with a manifest supporting different resolutions as well, since it was not a problem for my app. However, I can imagine fms going for a safer setting. I didn't know he had already posted about it.
Another small update to fMSX-Android tonight:
* Limited landscape-mode joystick size, so that it does not grow too big on tablets.
* Fixed virtual keyboard not showing up on small screens (i.e. 320x240).
* Added STOP key to the virtual keyboard.
cax, I rooted the device and tried Market Enabler, but so far fMSX and many other apps are still not showing. Is there a specific setting I need to change in build.prop?

Could someone with a low-resolution device (320x240) report on whether the fMSX virtual keyboard works on these devices? I do not have such a device to test on.
samor, in my case i just flashed the tablet with the firmware that already had the patched build.prop
just rooting may be not enough, you also need the the filesystem to be writeable. this is called fully rooted device.
can you manually update your build.prop
that seems to be the problem. I don't think this rom has write support. I'll try and find one that has.
I have updated fMSX for Android today:
Free ad-supported version:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fms.fmsx
Ad-free version:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fms.fmsx.deluxe
The most important change deals with the ad policies: the free version will no longer show ads if you have bought at least one of my paid apps (i.e. iNES, VGB, VGBA, MasterGear, or the "deluxe" versions of fMSX, Speccy, or ColEm).
So, you no longer need to buy the "deluxe" version of the same app you are using. You can buy any other app instead, and the ads will disappear.
Other changes:
- Worked around an Android bug that prevented some ZIP files from opening.
- Added third virtual fire button and assigned it to fast-forwarding everywhere.
- Arranged fire buttons vertically in landscape mode.
- Moved joypad away from the bottom-left corner button in the portrait mode.
- Added multiple Freeze/Restore slots.
