Is there any english version of the game ?

As I said already, it is british game. Smile

But, oh, now I understand, it looks like msxmania has only that italian translation. But please keep searching ebay and other web market places then. It was sold in Finland too. (no, I don´t have itSad)

I am quite sure, that there are msx folks, who surely are interested about Spectrum origins of Laser Squad:

Chaos (original)

Lords of Chaos (sequel)

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0002930

They are like Laser Squad but in medieval swordsmen and magicians style. :)

TOSEC (sp) versions are wrong, they're also italian ones. I haven't been able to find any other version.

Yeah, you're right. Just tried here, all versions are in Italian.
Even worst - the "Hydra Soft" opening uses screen 8, but the game is clearly for MSX1

What the hell... I just translated it :)
Also, I took the original loading screen from spectrum and added into the DSK - now the game loads on MSX1.
Strangely, even in the original (italian msx version, not on spectrum) there is a bug: when you see the player stats, if it's very high (>250) it goes out of the right screen border and into the left one :P

SLotman: that's all very nice, but I'm more interested in original dumps for preservation purposes Smile

Note that the so-called Spanish version has no loading screen (it is commented out) and runs on MSX1, see also the original post where this disk image is used.

I know. I just tought an English version would be better than a Spanish or Italian one, so everyone can enjoy it Smile

SLotman: Manuel may be right as far as preservation goes, but as a player I prefer something in a language that I can understand.
X-COM is in my all time top five, so I'm really curious how this MSX version of the mission part plays.
So the question that arises is : "When will this translated version be publicly available?"

The translation will take a little more time than I expected... the game is very poorly coded.

I think it has some problems with expanded slots - so it won't work on several msx machines Sad

Tried on emulated brazilian MSX1, on emulated MSX2+ and turbo-R... they all fail to load, or crash just before the level selection screen - I could only get it to work properly on blueMSX, emulating MSX1 or MSX2. Crying

I'm going to try later on my real turbo-R, but I'm not very hopeful it will work Sad
Edit: Yeah, same problem as on the emulated one - right after loading the first block, it freezes the MSX oO

On a positive side, I got to change the dreadful Q/A/O/P keys to MSX cursor keys - so it's much better to play it now Smile
