Julio Marchi of msxall has started an MSX chat channel on his own IRC server, after the afternet network (on which the popular Brazilian MSX channel was located) had been down for several days. The new IRC server is intended to be used solely for the MSX channel. MSX users from all over the world are invited to have a look and test the channel. You can use any IRC program, like MIRC, to connect to the MSX channel on irc.msxall.com.

What's the point of yet another MSX IRC channel?
There's already:
#msxbr @ Undernet (portuguese)
#msx @ Undernet (international, fun and fluff)
and #msxdev @ Rizon (international, serious MSX chat)

This is not a NEW irc channel... Actually it is a replacement channel.
In Brazil, the irc servers are "complicated", some of those blockes the ports 6666 and 6667 and there are other minor limitations.
About two years ago I did create the #MSX channel in Afternet in an intent to solve this problem. The #MSX on afternet was working fine until some days ago. Now, nobody can say surely if they will still provide IRC service and, in case of yes, what kind of "limitations" they may add.
In other hand, the MSX brazilian users have been using their IRC to comunicate more in portuguese (most brazilian cannot JUST read/write in English or Spanish). The #MSX Channel in portuguese is an important tool to keep the brazilian MSX community connected (and also the lists, and the forums).
BTW, I don't know why there are ALWAYS reaction when someone decides to create someting for MSX. Some times, what is already thete is just not enough or appropriate! Anyway, many more... Much better! This "argument" that "the NEW" will divide the community is not true because just in Brazil they have almost 5 big Lists and several News Sites... And, everyone helps each other most of the time...
There are a lot of "new MSX users" that have been reached because those "small" and " unknown" MSX sites, lists, forums and channels.
Here in MSX-ALL Server I will support anyone who decide to do something for MSX, even new Sites, Lists, IRC Channels, carrier pigeon, smoke signal etc etc etc.... Just for your knowledge, there are some important sites hosted here that DO NOT PAY A PENNY and even their domain name I bought and didn't charge, just to help them to keep going on.

Thanks anyway.

A lot of people complain they do NOT get a reaction when they create something for MSX, so be happy!

BTW, there's no reason for you to be this defensive, you're not being criticised.

I could ask what a 'moviment' is, but I won't...
I wonder if Ademir Carchano gives you his products for free, because apparently you don't like paying for MSX!

Well, that was not defense but explanation. I think when you post your position you gave me the right to explain mine...
This is not fighting, discussion or even argument, its only our right to do, say and agree or disagree openly.
I other hand, when you say that "I don't like to pay for MSX", I didn't get it...
Maybe I don't like to pay anymore because I've paid a lot before, and even now I keep paying but not only to obtain collectives, but to help people who are working on something that maybe even you will take advantage some day. I bought four Z80 20 Mhz for a brazilian projetist develop a turbo for MSX (Ricardo Oazem) and I sent that to him for free. I'd got several V9938 and V9958 and I distribute those between people who are creating something for MSX, such as Marco Antonio Simon DalPoz... I'd bought a Turbo-R (yet paying) and it is with Ricardo Barreyra who is developing a Network Card for MSX... I've investing several thousand dollars in Servers and systems and everything have been offered for free for everyone who desires publish on the Internet something about MSX... I've paid for domain names without charge the "owners"; I've donate MSX parts for projectist and connected people with nice ideas... And, years ago, when I was working on the CPU-MSX Magazine, I did invest and help countless people with their projects, suck as Julio Velloso (BKP), Miguel Freitas (several programs), Allan Bispo (GenLock for MSX2), Ricardo Oazem and Rogerio Belarmino (Tecnobytes and FM-Sound Stereo)... There are more, but I don't remmeber... But the fact is that my money is OUT THERE, in MSX PROJECTS and helping people who is trying to do something for MSX, and not in personal collections and personal ideas.
Do not point your finger before you be sure about your affirmations, please.
No hard feelings because I know you don't know those things because I don't need to make marketing about that... Also, I respect your right to say whatever you want (but, do not expect that I still quiet)!
Still friends, I hope. Wink

P.S.: Yes, I disagree with MSX Association, even they have legal rights about MSX patent.

I've got an IRC server running as well on which the idea was to centralize MSX activities to one server, like channels for MSX groups like development teams, organizers of MSX meetings, etc. Due to lack of time to work on the channel-service bot I haven't advertised for it yet. There are just a few people who actually know about the server which has been running for a few years already. Info about it has been on my website for that same duration.

And about that manifest... It's ancient already if you ask me.

Yeah, I think is time to take a review on that text... Actually, I didn't wrote that, I just helped and agreed with its terms (and, of course, I'd published it in MSX-ALL WebSite)... Because this I cannot just review that by my own ideas...
BTW, even the manifest contents maybe looks like "out-of-date", my opinion about MSX-Association, their ideas and "results" (nothing concret until now), still the same!
About your IRC, let us know the address. I am sure that with a little "advertisement" you will have more visitors (surely people like me who is always droping by everywhere to see what is going on). Wink
If you want, I can disseminate your IRC Channels with the others...

I tend to disagree that MSX Association have accomplished nothing 'concrete' until now. It's like saying "that'll never work" to the plans Nishi had with MSX in 1980. Those plans also did not suddenly appear in June 1983, you know, but have been worked on and thought about long before the standard was publically announced, long before MSX computers were actually available in shops. The only difference is that we, the MSX community, were informed about this project in a very early stage and were asked to think along. Perhaps the only mistake MSX Association made so far is informing the MSX Community about things this early, as many people certainly can't cope with waiting for the final results.

The MSX Association is not just Mr. Nishi with a load of cash, but contains of many active MSX users like you and me. Mr. Yokoi, Mr. Haga, Mr. Suzuki, Mr. Miyashita... all people who enjoy using MSX, people who believe in a future of MSX and have invested a lot of time and money in projects they believe in, just like you and me, to make things happen. So far this has resulted in 2 magazines (new one coming up), an official Emulator which is quite good (comparable to NLMSX), a succesful Robo Education project, Project EGG, the Game Reader, they even got Compile (Aiky) interested in publishing new MSX games again.... sure it's not the one-chip-MSX yet, sure MSX Association is running behind on schedule, sure it's Japan-only until now and sure the big difference between you and me supporting CIEL3++ and MSX Association supporting the One Chip MSX is that MSX Association is the legally entitled owner of the MSX System ROMS, but that doesn't make it fair to say they have not accomplished anything interesting yet. Just my 2 cents.

disseminateYou might want to translate this little word to something more common. If you mean by that what I think you mean... I'll wait for that translation...

Anyway, try some google tricks with my nick or name, our beloved computer system and some games company that made (and still does) quite a large impact on the market. I'm quite sure you'll find the website all that info is located on. Happy hunting! Smile

It sounded awefully defensive. Especially because I did not post 'my position'. At this point, I do not have a position on this matter! I simply asked a question!!!

This is not fighting, discussion or even argument, its only our right to do, say and agree or disagree openly.
Again, I did not agree nor disagree with anything, I simply posted a question. I have to say your reply to that is paranoid and defensive.

I other hand, when you say that "I don't like to pay for MSX", I didn't get it...So, what's the problem?!

:S
Do you know what? I think some people here enjoy to create arguments and make difficult what suppose to be a nice conversation and exchange of ideas...
Sorry guys but I have no time for that...
Snout, thanks for the support.
Everyone else, enjoy whatever you like. I will wait for a day when the level of the comment gets more productive and friendly...

For Snout:
About MSX-Association, you have explained exactly what I've said: they are behind the schedule, and so far they haven't reached too much results as they have promissed (but they have created a lot of unnecessary fights because "copyrights").
About the Ciel 3++: I do not disagree with MSX-Association to be supportive to Ademir Carchano. BTW, I have always disagreed with his "way to make business". The CIEL 3++ idea sounds great, his projects (when finished) are undoubtedly wonderful, but he is also more than "behind the schedule"... I believe that he will finish it, but I will start supporting him when the CIEL 3++ gets available for everyone and not for a small groups of "investors" (of course he may sell it, but surely he will be persecuted by MSX-Association).

Arrh, Guyver didn't 'create an argument' whatsoever!! He raised a valid point which I support btw. Sometimes I really get the feeling people get pissed off about nothing just because Guyver is the person making the comment. What a nonsense.

Btw, I wonder if I should dig up my anti-anti-revival text again -_-;; (no, I think I deleted it). I thought we were past that. Anyways, that statement on the MSXALL site alone does *not* make me any more eager to join your IRC network. I wouldn't want to be associated with something like that by actively participating in the MSXALL's IRC channel. If you want to be a central site, you need a certain degree of independance, not taking sides on anything, or otherwise you will drive people away and never can be a true 'central' site for anything. Post stuff like that on a private site or something. But, I think I said that before.

Grauw,

I agree with you, and honestly I think it's about time to take out everything from that site. I am already thinking in upgrade that anyway...
In the future, when something else gets published over there, that will have to offer a kind of "forum" to people comment, agree or disagree. But, the site have to be impartial...
About the IRC, that is just hosted in MSXALL Servers, but the people, the subjects and the intent of the channel is not to be MSX-ALL community but yet MSX community (and, that was just create to replace the problematic channel in Afternet). BTW, I think that is good when someone who is part of the MSX community have the control of the important resources...
Best Regards.

Julio Marchi

P.S.: Your comment about the manifest was very pertinent, polite and well explained... Even I can't fight against reasonability! Smile
