I have an MSX2 machine with 64k RAM / 128k VRAM. Do I need to buy a memory expansion card to be able to use CF ATA IDE?
MSX-DOS 2 needs at least 128kB RAM. So if you want to make proper use of it: yes. (Better get an MSX2 with 128kB or more, they're quite easy to get....)
It's too late. I have already got a Sony HB-F1XDmk2 in a superb condition. I will have to up the RAM. I might buy a Turbo-R ST/GT further down the track.
Here is the memory expander I am considering buying:

Will it allow me to run IDE CF properly, i.e. with MSX-DOS 2?
With a 4 MB mapper you *might* run into compatibility issues... I have a 4mb cartridge but when I use it there's a lot of software on the CF-IDE that won't start.
Samor, can you suggest an alternative to that 4Mb cartridge? I have not bought it yet.
I've just ordered a 4mb cartridge from spain, I will try to test it on several of my MSX computers to check, I have heard it may behave different on different models.
(Will test on Sony MSX 2+, Panasonic MSX 2+, Sanyo Wavy 70FD,VG8235, VG8255 and Sony H700P)
Please keep us posted on the progress. If it works well, I will probably order it from the same source. Did it cost you much?
I have the SUNRISE IDE cartridge, with an external CF IDE reader and a CD Drive ( I wait for an Symbos CD driver XD ), then, the CF reader work well, but, if I plug an SD to CF converter, do a timeout error. I tried to use a internal CF reader, and the converter work well, the problem is the external CF drive. This is my CF experience
EDIT: I find this... http://www.euronetside.com/shop/index.php?target=products&product_id=29786
coldbreeze: let some one modify the Sony internally
Or get some 512kB cart or so, but it's basically a waste of MSX slot.
That's also an option. Where can I buy a 512kb cartridge BTW?
