"Colossal Adventure" cassette on MSX2 machines

Hi there

As you may know, I've been trying to load some MSX1 text adventure games in my MSX2-like machine, with partial success.

One resisting game is "Colossal Adventure": there are disk versions but they are all wrong and display text with errors.
I recently found about a way to load CAS files, but no CAS for "Colossal" will load on an MSX2 machine (tried A LOT of them in OpenMSX, from Philips to Sony, etc). It always stops at the "please wait while the rest of the game loads" screen.

So, is there a CAS for "Colossal Adventure" that loads in an MSX2? Or maybe a DSK version with the right text??

thanks

Which MSX-like machine do you have?, the CAS version around the web works fine in a MSX2 machine at least if you boot with SHIFT pressed and use the right magical poke.

what? Tell me about the "right magical poke": do you mean the universal poke or an specific poke for my machine souch as "poke -1,0"? (good for Philips machines an for the 1ChipMSX for example).

And what about Shift? Don't you mean CTRL??

thanks!

(BTW, if you're the same jltursan who coded CAVERNS OF TITAN, I like that game a lot!)

Wohoo!

Almost there!! I got Colossal Adventure to load in an Philips NMS 8250 in OpenMSX, wich is an MSX2 machine!

Booted with SHIFT (even if I don't know what it does, but heh), then made POKE -1,170, and then LOAD "CAS:",R

Now I need to try it on my own MSX2.. the 1ChipMSX model Altera DE1 Big smile

Yep, it's me, thanks!

And yep again, it's the "universal poke". Pressing SHIFT during boot, both (not one as with CTRL) disk drives are disabled so you get the maximum available RAM to run a CAS file. Tested at least with BlueMSX and the CAS seems to work Smile

Uh-huh, that's it!, try using the "universal" poke as I don't have the slightest idea of which kind of memory map uses the Altera implementation.

Bad move... If I boot the 1ChipMSX with SHIFT, it leaves me in BASIC, not in MSX-DOS, so I can't load anything Sad

And load"cas:" don't work as it doesn't have a cassette interface?

That's it, it doesn't work because (I think) the Altera DE1 doesn't have a cassette audio input.
But I'm waiting for Caro to confirm that.

Oops, hope that Caro can provide a solution for this...Sad
