I have compiled openmsx 0.8.2 under ubuntu under vmware,it works good, however there are some issues, the first
a) i have to use osd go to hardware/connectors/ and assign keyjoystick 1 to keyjoystick1 or i cant play as by default it is the vmware usb joystick driver .how to change this without the need to do it manually?
b)Loading rom under OSD does not work,it makes me see the directory but they are always empty the rom files do not appear and every time i have to load them from the prompt.I havent installed catapult yet.

Thank you

a) openMSX plugs in a joystick in port a by default, for convenience. I wonder why SDL thinks you have a joystick available on the system, without actually having one... Anyway, you can also play without joystick and use cursor keys right? No need to plug the keyjoystick for that. If you still want to disable autoplugging of a real joystick, you'll have to modify a script to disable it, because as I said, this normally works fine. See share/scripts/autoplug.tcl - remove the whole block labeled joystick ports.
b) what are the names of your ROM files? The OSD menu only lists files with extensions 'rom', 'zip' and 'gz'. It's possible to change that in a script as well, see share/scripts/osd_menu.tcl and look for menu_create_ROM_list. If you let me know which extensions are missing, I'll change it in the openMSX SVN repository, so next release will have this changed.

PS: feel free to join our chatroom #openMSX on the Freenode IRC network for direct help.

well the roms were named with the rom in capitals like this eg HINOTORI.ROM,USAS.ROM. I renamed them to rom from ROM and now they appear Smile seems strange but i have to remember under linux rom is different to ROM,though for many users having names transferred from other os it could be like that.
By the way performance under vmware is so much nicer now,i use the unity mode and do not have any slowdowns,it almost feels like i have it running natively in windows 7.

Now regarding joystick,if i let it like this then something strange happens, the buttons right and up are always pressed and i cant play anything, most sprites go to the upper left corner,i used the osd keyboard on screen and the left and up button where red,i dont know why it thinks it has a joystick, maybe it is something related to the virtual machine.Although now it works perfectly.Perofrmance under vmware workstation 8
running under windows 7 64bit a 32 bit version of ubuntu 10.4 is very very good

I fixed the filtering to become case insensitive. You can already download and replace your osd_menu.tcl script with this one: http://openmsx.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/openmsx/openmsx/tr... It will be part of next release as well. Alternatively, compile the latest SVN version.

Regarding the joystick: I have no idea what's going on there. Seems to be a quirk/bug in VMWare?!

You said "i used the osd keyboard on screen and the left and up button where red", what do you mean here? The OSD keyboard doesn't have cursor/joystick display. Maybe you mean the "toggle_cursors" command? Ah yeah, I think you do. It displays the cursor keys ORed with the joystick status. So, then I still think VMWare does something weird/wrong in emulating a joystick or something.

I don't know of anyone currently trying to port it to Android, but I'd sure be interested! Best thing to do is join our IRC development channel so we can optimally support you (or any other porter).

Hi nikodr, I have started working on an android port of openMSX. I received my android device (a samsung galaxy nexus) yesterday.
