I *think* the problem with the opl4 is the old software that came with it...
Who was working on this?
Hehe, I was, along with some others who discovered that there was a life besides msx. Like a parallal universe. scary.
Would it be possible to get the work in the public domain?
I have searched some disks this afternoon, and I have lost lots of gfx and stuff, it seems. Not all music is as great as I thought but still there are some nice tunes left. I think it's better to finish the games than to put it into the public domain.
And although most of this music is made with Moonblaster (and even Soundtracker), some pieces might end up on the Realfun disk as demo-songs
Or at least handed over to someone willing to finish the games?
If there was someone willing to finish a game, he could come up with an idea also, am I right? Or are there really that much people waiting for some music, gfx and ideas to start coding?
And I am willing to finish to games, well at least some of them. Really. I promise
But we use some of those tunes in 'The Best of Hamaraja Night 2.'sjoerd, hamaraja music is not to be used for anything, anymore. Actually, none of the content that i put on it. meaning, there is no music for your current hamaraja that comes from the jelsma campSomehow the 'jelsma camp' music sounded very much like the music on 'Meits' best noices'.
why do you think i was able to make the first version of that game in about 1 week? the music part was mostly done by him. But i always hated his moonsound versions. Anyway, i still think his name had to be mentioned in the first version of the game.
Meits is a Jelsma
Hi Wolf and Jorito and Hans Cnossen! Maybe you guys can put some nice MoonSound songs on this forum you created over the years? Jorito: i liked your Metal Gear stuff on the Picturedisk, but I can't load them into MoonBlaster for MoonSound
Other possibility is to create a musicdisk containing the MWM/MWK/MFM files and ask for some euro's per disk or put them online with a paypal system for those who do not visit a fair...
Haven't done anything for years really. I've a Nowind, so sooner or later I'll continue my attempts to create a nowind tracker so I can run the whole show on PC - mbwave is a bit of a showstopper for me as it won't allow you to get even 20% out of a Moonsound. Until that moment I've a passionmsx2 game entry to finish with edwin (psg), and a study to dive into. And I was supposed to keep MRC up as well, but I got some extra hands recently, so you may see news coming in from others than just me!
<cheer mode on!>
Retrofan, it's a good idea asking for new Moonsound songs! Thing is though, I'm sure a lot of us do try creating tunes, but their quality is nowhere near Wolf/Jorito/Kid Cnoz level..... So uhm, lots of tunes don't get released, but are just eating dust on CF cards
That shouldn't be an issue in a situation where the ppl you name don't release often. It shouldn't be an issue at all. The MSXdev entry with the lowest score is nowhere near the top-3, and still they are created and released.
I rather think the number of people interested in creating Moonsound music is getting lower. Partly because they've moved away, partly because they've returned to PSG in recent times. I also think the quality of MB-Wave (still more or less the de facto choice for Moonsound) isn't very inviting. I mean, even regardless of multiple cells per step, regardless of sub rows (put events on ints between rows), regardless of better instrument management.. just try working at position 100.. each playback command takes ages.. it's just not fun to create something there.
Yes, that's the entire eating of whole eggs. Da's het hele eieren eten.
In the early nineties, it was great to get this OPL4 sounds out of your MSX.
Now, even in retrospective the MoonSound isn't really so interesting to play with for a composer.
Nowadays you'd either go for the authentic, 'way back' MSX sound (PSG, SCC, MSX-Music, MSX-Audio) because you particulary like that, or use more state of the art ways to produce your music anyway (which usually doesn't involve an MSX, duh).
OPL4/MoonSound falls somewhere in between that gap.
Besides all that, I think it's hardly a case of quality, rather quantity.
If someone would make a game for the GFX9000 (or VSU ofcourse) then I'm sure there's still enough talented folks around who could be motivated to compose moonsound music (or convert and make up-to-date their MB 1.4 work).
