Aaah, ok, I misunderstood that you wanted to patch Nextor, but patching the game indeed makes a lot more sense Smile.

btw, @andrea.denara at https://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/software/survey-improvede... asked about adding Konami’s usual character set (or screen typeface, or "font") on Hyper Sports 1, and perhaps the same method would work on Super Cobra as well (and perhaps all other games that used bios character set as well) - did anyone made a patch for that? (from my innacurate memories from the 80’s i thought it used values from system variables addresses like &hf91f, &hf920 and &hf911, but it didn’t work (i tried with this for testing, and then loading these games (converted) from .cas files: https://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/software/msx1-printing-ch... ) )

Finding this one was quite easy: at 0x4AB3 we find "2A0400" ( ld hl,($0004) ), which i replaced with "210060" (ld hl,$6000), and then i added the usual Konami’s screenfont at 0x6000
I guess doing the same on Hyper Sports 1 and other games using the bios screenfont might be not that difficult as well - i guess 8kb games are easier because we don’t have to switch memory slots - in the case of Hyper Sports 1, i think we need to copy some code part to somewhere between 0x8000 and 0x9FFF (the 16kb rom would become a 24kb or 32kb) for arranging some space for the slot switcher, place the screenfont somewhere there as well, and it might work as fine as this Super Cobra patch

Boggy 84 isn’t that hard as well (it isn’t from Konami, but i was curious to try on this one as well)

at 0x82EB, "2A0400" is replaced with "2100A0", and the same about adding the screenfont at 0xA000
i tried on Peetan as well, but i couldn’t find "ld hl,($0004)" there...

MAME has some cool features like stretching (OpenMSX also has, but from MAME is a bit more flexible, like defining display sizes, ratios, offset, etc.), rotation (which i use a lot), etc. (and also, since i use to co-develop stuff to other hardware with similar components as msx, like Colecovision, PV2000, Sord M5, SG1000, etc., sometimes i need to try them all in the same emulator, for checking if they behave similarly)
(see that i’m not misregretting OpenMSX! i really love OpenMSX!!! i use it a lot as well, specially the console, and when i need to use specific hardware emulation, specially all those MAME doesn’t support yet )

If there are specific things you'd like to see improved in openMSX please let us know.

More flexible scalers is on the to-do list somewhere, by the way. But don't count on it soon...
