Excellent information.. Thank you! I will place an order soon!
By the way, this is the already working prototype of the floppy+CF card controller board:
I also have a 1mb MMM cartridge from Eric for 40 euro. So both cartridges can be around 80 euros together. Still 60 euro cheaper than the cheapest MegaFlashRom SCC + 512kb RAM. The biggest benefit of MegaFlashRom is that it has everything on one board and when using this cartridge you still have one free slot in MSX.
How do I get more information about the 1mb MMM cart from Eric? I assume it would work great with the memory expansion for my CX5M.
Thanks!
MMM is sold out http://www.ebsoft.fr/shop/en/home/35-musical-memory-mapper.html
Nice stuff alexey, does that fit in a standard konami/sunrise cart?
The MMM is just a memory expansion and not an SD interface, correct? I want to be able to download files from the internet and copy to SD then play on the CX5M.

I am not a developer of this cartridge, just a beta tester/supporter. This cartridge is made on the board used in the Wozblaster, so it should fit into the cases that Eric sells with his prototype boards:

There's a guy in Korea who sells those cases in 3 different colors. Those are quite expensive, but the quality seems to be quite good:

its a 1MB mapper + some soundchip http://www.msx.org/wiki/Musical_Memory_Mapper I dont know which software support that chip atm
Dont forget that there are disk images and rom images. For rom images you need a flashrom cartridge or something like the playsoniqs rom mapper functionality to use those, and look at each sd/cf etc reader whether they support dsk images. If not, it will be just one big HDD and not all games/software run well from that if i am correct
IMHO at the moment a megaflashrom+scc+sd+mapper thingy is the best for your situation.

Then the MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD slot 512kb is for you.
Is there any advantage to getting the version with 2 SD slots? Does it allow anything special other than having two slots?
Does this support tape/disk and cartridge images?

No, the single-slot is probably good enough for you. I have the 2-slot version and I barely use it, it’s just an extra option.

Disk and cartridge images are supported by the cartridge, tape images are not.
For tape images you can use your mobile phone connected to the MSX cassette input.
