I created a working DMK image of it.

making a image is easy. I did the same thing with your tool. Now try putting that image on a real floppy Wink

That's a... challenge indeed Smile I think it's (almost?) impossible on an MSX (as was discussed before). But at least the game is fully archived now Smile

That is what DSKPRO tries to do. To write a protected imagem (PDI) back to the disk.
And of course, it tries to copy a protected disk into another disk.

Its the only tool in MSX history that does that.

But of course, not all protected disks can be copied but DSKPRO tries to do the best.

Yeah, I know. I agree it's a unique tool and it's probably the most complete tool.

I hope you or someone else would extend it at some time to make it also dump protected disks in DMK format. It would be great to combine the extraction qualities of the READ-DMK tool with the userfriendliness of DSK-PRO. It would make it definitely the ultimate tool!

And perhaps you or someone else can also have fun optimizing the disk read routines to match FastCopy Wink

Well, DSKPRO will never work with DMK files, BUT it would be easier for a good coder to create a conversion tool between PDI and DMK and vice versa in Windows (PC).

I am not that guy. Who else can do this?

Cbsfox, I tested DSK-PRO on my VG8235 with 512kb MFRSCC+SD, it worked perfectly. I like the clean GUI, MSX 1 support and speed (even if in fact I do not care so much about +/- 10s, I'm writing .CAS images to real tape and loosing hours and hours on MSX programming these days, so I'm not in a hurry Smile). I did not try protected disks, I have other tools on PC for that.

On my turboR though, it gets stuck when writing the disk image to the he SD card. Maybe because you're using te memory mapper pages used by turboR BIOS copy ? I should try booting with 0 key pressed to see if that improves things....

And here are some suggestions I have:
- Returning to DOS instead of reset when exiting.
- Using argument 1 to DSKPRO.COM as default output/input file (would allow to select a file to write to FDD from multimente).
- Using DOS 2 to allocate memory ? (If available)
- Switching to R800 mode back when writing or reading file image?

And about the forum reactions and everything here: I'm pretty sure you like it. In fact, I think you're looking for it, OMG Running Naked in a Field of Flowers Glad that it did not went too bad, it was even kind of fun, in some ways.

Anyway, I've seen DSK-PRO sources are 200kb big, so I can imagine the amount of work behind that. And most of all you made them public, thanks for that Smile

Hi Cbsfox,
I tried it too: it is very useful and functional.
Thank you again for this realization.
And.... I hope you'll contunue to upgrade it with perfection. Smile

No, you can't create a conversion tool from DMK to PDI, because DMK is a richer format than PDI. See that previous discussion from a few months ago. You can convert PDI into DMK of course.

The best outcome would be that the read out algorithms of READ-DMK would be ported into DSK-PRO. WIth those you can read all copy protected disks. To store all data you'd need to be able to write it into a format which is as rich as DMK, as also previously discussed.

I hope someone would do that some day. ANd then we can more easily make dumps of all our beloved original disk software before the disks are lost forever!

Thanks Louthrax and Pippo for the time spent testing the tool.
Thats what I want. I want to know the incompatibilities to try to fix it.
And thanks for the suggestions. I will think about it.

I would like someone to try to copy a protected disk.
Appearantly in some computers without external mapper it freezes.
Please, spend some time on that please.

Again, in a Sony XV computer it works perfectly. In my brazilian Expert computer too.

And yes, the sources are huge and I spent more than 2 years on that.

Feel free to take a look on that.

Regards
Marcos

cbsfox this tool runs under DOS2?

If so, remember that DOS2 is unable to load/save file data from/to secondary mappers directly. Because DOS will select always the primary mapper's slot/sslot when performing DISK I/O.
